I ordered a set of Rio Grande Muy Grande pickups for my American Tele. I've never changed pickups before. Are there any tips/tricks or is it pretty straight forward?

They'll probably come with a diagram but it's pretty much just the reverse of removing the stock pickups. While you've got it open you might want to experiment with your tone cap values. I find the tone control to be more useful with a smaller value cap than is stock.

When you roll down the pot it's not so bassy. The bassy sound is good on the bridge pickup but not so useful on the neck pickup which is where I would use it. It still takes off the top but leaves more mids in. I guess it moves up in frequency where it starts to roll off the highs, if that makes sense. I think what I used on my Tele was about 1/2 the value of the stock cap. It's more like how Tom Anderson does his.

Well, I got 'em in there. With some short testing, I think they'll give me what I was looking for - a thicker tone than the stock pickups. I'll need to gig with them first, but I think this will be a nice upgrade.

You'll love 'em Kruzty. They really fattened up my Tele when I put 'em in there.

You'll love 'em Kruzty. They really fattened up my Tele when I put 'em in there. Yeah, I had a gig on Saturday. They sounded great. I really just wanted to upgrade the bridge, but I that price I thought I should try both. I was happy with the stock neck pickup, but I was pleasantly surprised that the neck is better, too!
