Well, I've been going to the Gretsch Discussion Pages for a while now, and it seems that they like me because they found out that I wouldn't be able to get the 5120 that I had planned on and they all pitched in and bought me a Gretsch. They only raised so much so someone (I have no idea who) told Mike Lewis (who handles the marketing and distribution of Gretsch for Fender) about it and he was able to lower the price of a G6118T Anniversary. Lots of people donated even Duane Eddy's wife! Awesome. And TV Jones is donating pickups and there's going to be Sperzels and angels will sing! This is great because the wife says I wouldn't have been able to get both a Dr Z and a Gretsch but now with the Gretsch itch scratched I'll be able to save up while I'm in the box for a Z! Eh, it might take two deployments, but the important thing is that it won't take as long as it would have because now I have the guitar! Oh man, this is great news. It should be getting mailed out tomorrow. Can't wait for it to arrive!

Annie left Memphis at a little past 1 in the morning. It's about a five hour drive from there to here.

Came home today and saw the box. I roll up my sleeves and get to opening the box. I was so impatient I didn't want to get out of my uniform but once the case was open I had to get out of it because I didn't want my three foot zipper scratching the back. Anyhoo, the moment you've all been waiting for: The pictures! There's Bob, scoping it out. And there's Bob, falling in. Bob, safely out, left me able to take it out. My goofy-arse smile. And there it is!

Initial impressions: This guitar is huge. It looks small on the walls and in the stores and maybe even when it's on your lap, but when you have it strapped on... I'm dwarfed. I'll admit, that's not hard, but it's happening. Personally I think it looks cool to be dwarfed by a Gretsch. The strap (a very nice tooled black one) had to be reversed to find a comfortable place but man, COMFY. I play it and just sense the possibilities. Tax return time it might get Sperzels and I'll definitely try flats. I love them on everything else, it's only a logical step to hear flats on this! This is the most comfortable guitar I've ever played. I just can't see going back to solid bodies. The color: WHAT A COLOR! I've seen them in person but always forget just how beautful and bright that green is. Love it.
Thanks everyone.

Wow! That color makes me think of Key Lime Pie...well really fake key lime pie since the real thing isn't green. Nevertheless it looks YUMMY. Now I'm green with envy ;D Congrats!!

Thanks! I thought the same thing. My wife always jokes that I'll buy anything that reminds me of limes and especially key limes, even if it ends up being a bad investment. Not so with this baby.
Hopefully by the weekend my amp will come in and I'll be able to hear those TV Jones'!

Reminds me of that comercial where this guy is trying to sell a lime green VW Bug, and his wife says "Who's gonna want that??" and then it cuts to this guy who's house is all green.

Congrats Pappy...a beautiful Gretsch for sure. Plugged into a Z, its a recipe for vintage tone!! Reminds me of my Uncle Clarey's Gretsch, same color and all. Been awhile since I've seen his so I'm not sure if its the exact model. I believe his dates from the 70s or 80s and he once told me that its an anniversary issue. Seeing yours brought back found memories of him playing that big old box at our family parties...A very sweet sounding guitar. Enjoy.

Thanks for the compliments, all. I appreciate it.
The guitar is considerably more green in person. I kind of wish it would photo better, but it still looks wicked awesome so I'm good!
