Ok guys and gals... how do you keep the plastic peg from falling off the 3 way selector switch on your Tele. Glue? Rubber Cememt?
This is my first Tele and the plastic knob keeps falling off.

I usually don't yank up on the selector, that tends to keep it from falling off. ;D
Seriously, I've not had that problem, but you could try a little rubber cement. The problem is, you want to be able to get it off if you need to work on it. You could just buy a new tip and see if it fits better. Maybe there is s small crack in the one you have...

Normally this happens when overseas parts are used. The one guitar I had that had this issue I used a hot glue gun, put a dab in the knob and reinstalled and she never fell off again.

Another one for hot glue gun. That is what I use to glue the plastic knob for the tremolo bar on my strat.

if you don't want to glue it, you can use the teflon tape used in plumming to increase the size of the switch shaft. just a little bit of RTV silicon adhesive would be OK, too.

I've had that before too, I think it was a late 80s American Standard Tele. That metal under there was really sharp on mine. I think I somehow put a kink in the metal to make it fit tighter. It was too long ago to remember but I like the bit of caulking idea so you can get it off if you need to.

Funny, but a little chewing gum works really well too.

Thanks for all the tips
I tried a bunch of AM STD Tele's at the GC and they all had the same issue. Then I got my new AM STD and I can't keep the darn thing from falling off. I guess I'll use the hot glue. I won't use enough that I won't be able to get it off in the future.

I've glued them on before too...super glue, hot glue...if you ever have to remove the tip, it'll be because the switch has gone bad so I figure I'll just break it off and buy another tip when I buy the new switch.

Seems to me , back in the 80's, I melted the inside portion a little w/ a solderin gun and has been hangin tough ever since. I'm sure it would still break loose if need be.

I used contact cement in the shop years back, and it always held. Here's another thing about selector knobs. There were two reasons why the knobs fell off, and here they are in unbiased glory:
1) Offshore crap, like Billy has already illuded to. They didn't fit properly and sometimes the plastic inside the knob even broke away. Buy Fender after market knobs if you can, and watch you get good ones that fit. They should go on tight, and stay there.
2) Guys smacking them around like they were Pete Townsend on steroids. I have repaired telecasters built from 1952 and on, and if treated properly, even the old babies from the 50's still are tight. That's likely the most common reason if it's not cheap build quality and parts.
