Anyone using a Tone Pros TOM style bridge?
I inquire because I'm considering seriously re-working my Hamer Special. The combination of P-90s and all-mahogany body just seems to be ALL midrange. This is the LAST guitar you'd ever want to play with a RT66, for example.
There's also some weird jangliness in certain places that I can't quite figure out, and the guitar just doesn't sustain very well. Even with super high action, the sustain is not there.
The guitar has a lot of resonance, and seems put together very well (USA made in Chicago).
So I can't figure out why such a resonant guitar just dies on the sustain. It's almost like certain parts of the fingerboard just dump the resonance into a black hole, while others just let it sing forever.
I've even considered completely stripping off the TV Blond (read: baby poop yellow/green) finish and just doing a Tru Oil finish myself, because the finish seems pretty thickly applied.
I replaced the saddle once because the original was breaking strings all the time. Tone with the replacement was about the same (I think it's a regular small-post TOM from Gotoh or something).
So, anyone have experience with Tone Pros, or are the other bridge options I can consider to improve the sustain of this guitar??

Yeah, i had an SG like that, light and really resonant but no sustain to speak of. Tried a tonepros, no different really. It is an excellent bridge, however. Really well built.
My Les Paul is about 10 pounds and sustains for days. Not sure if its the weight, the maple top or the neck. Same hardware, pickups, etc, but totally different charateristics.

I have a new Lentz DL90. The whole guitar is 7 pounds or less. One of the few light guitars I've ever played that had good sustain on nearly all the notes. Most notes ring all day and some only get you to lunch but that ain't bad! For me it's nearly always been weight equals sustain. What a guitar like a Les Paul Jr or Special need is a wrap around bridge.

Hohn, I have a Hamer Monaco Superpro that came with the TonePros bridge and tailpiece. I like mine a lot--quality, locking, etc.--but I don't think it would solve your problem all in one move. If you do it and it helps a lot, please let us know.
Is your tailpiece screwed down tight?
