Hey all,
just got a brand new American Standard Strat and put some 10-52 strings on it (which is what I normally use). I also tune down half a step to Eb. When I started adjusting the relief I almost got it to where I like it (just a bit of relief, less then 1/64 inch measured at 8th fret) and the truss rod squeaked a bit when I tightened it. Did I already get to the end of the thread? Those strings are not that thick and I'm tuning down half a step! Is that as far as it goes??? Anyone else had the same issue?
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Truss rods are a lot of "feel" when you adjust them. Forget the squeak for now...that could be new wood and new metal, or just the action of the turn itself. Was it still turning when it started squeaking? Are you sure the action you want is all truss adjustable impacted? In aother words "how much of the action you desire is acheivable by bridge adjustments vs. TR adjustments? " We'll start there if you'd like the help. And you're right 10-46's are not too heavy, and no you shouldn't even have to tune down to Eb. In fact tuning down to anything or up to anything affects the neck and action to a point of adjustments sometimes. The guitar will work tuned any way you like, but is most sympathetic to it's design and harmonics @ A-440 VPS.
