Hey all,
just got my American Hard Tail Strat with maple neck and would like to replace the bridge pup with a hum-cancelling one. I'm looking for more output then the standard single coil (about twice as much) and something a bit fatter but would still like to retain those strat like tones while providing more crunch.
Music: heavy rock/alternative Amp/cab: Bümbox Lead 50 (JMP style 50W), Dr.Z Route 66, VHT 4x12 Dirt pedals: Diamond Fireburst, D*A*M Drag'N'Fly, Cusack Screamer Fuzz, SubDecay Blackstar
Thanks!

Throw a Barden in the bridge spot and you'll have output and hum cancelling both....

It may not be hum canceling pickup (I'm not sure) but I put a Fralin P90 voiced in the bridge and WOW! I've got Fralin Blues in the 2 other positions and the P90 is a little hotter and it's got more grit. Cuts through like a dream.

I'm not much for the rail style pickups soundwise, but they are high output and quiet. If you want it to still sound like a strat bridge then a sd hot vintage stack or the dimarzio virtual vintage would be pretty good.
Better yet, those american strats are already routed for a real bridge humbucker, all you would need is a pickguard. Lots to choose from there. You could put in one of those fralin unbuckers, might be just the sound you want.

Thanks for the replies, my other guitar is Music Man Silhouette Special which has a HB in the bridge and originally I wanted to match my Strat to that but then I changed my mind a bit and decided to keep the Strat closer to it's own sound, however, I do need something with more crunch and hum-cancelling. DiMarzio Virtual Vintage Solo is starting to seem like a good choice.

JB Junior. It's a really good pickup.

JB Junior. It's a really good pickup. yeah ... I was thinking about that one but then I'm back at trying to jam a hb in the strat instead of mantaining the "strat sound" ... got a feeling I want to have my cake and eat it to ...

JB Junior is a single coil sized PU if that's what your worried about. If your looking for humbucker sized PU's then look at the Lindy Fralin Twangmaster or P92.

Yeah I know ... sorry, I mis-worded it, what I meant to say was that I think I'd like to have a single coil sounding pickup vs. a humbucker sounding pickup in a single coil package.

i voted for the VirtuAL Solo. you might also want to try the Blues version of it, too.
