With all the Tele players here, I'm assuming there are those that can give me some input. Is the '52 RI worth the $$ over a Standard American Tele or others? I love the feel of the American Vintage guitars and the way they play. The one's I've played seem more "solid" and of higher quality. Opinions?

My #1 is a 1997 '52 RI, Played to death and solid as they come, stay's in tune, and tough, I played a really nice new one awhile back, sure wanted to add it but there's no reason to.

My main guitar is a 52 RI, and it's the best Fender electric I've ever played. To be frank, I'm not really a big Fender fan; most Tele's feel really heavy and clunky to me, and I just can't play a Strat. I bought mine six years ago, and I tried just about every other Fender in the store that day, and none of them came close to it.
Although I find it a little more challenging to play than my PRS or Les Paul, I almost never take those guitars out of their cases, because the Tele just sounds so much better (even unplugged). It cuts through better live, but it doesn't ever sound thin (stock pups). Sounds amazing through my Prescription as well. It's also the lightest Tele I've ever played, which was a surprise to me.
I've been considering getting a chambered ash Tele, but I really don't need it. My only complaint is that I play it so much, the fretboard is starting to really show some wear....
Good luck on your search.

My 2000 '52 reissue always played good, now with Fralins to me is great. As I told in other thread she rocks too.

I've had a couple 52's and really like them . My current one is a 2005 model and built as well as the other I owned from the late 90's . One thing to make sure you like and find comfortable playing is the vintage radius on the neck . I find if I have not played mine for a while it takes a few licks to get comfortable with it again but not a big issue . As far as build and sound I think thay are an excellent buy . Some find the pups not to thier liking but I guess that's personal taste . One thing of note too is if you do get a newly made one the laquer may still be sticky on the neck and will need some time to cure......sometimes a couple months or so .

Way better than the Am. Standard Teles. Not quite Custom Shop, but quite good!

Thanks for the input guys. I'm seriously considering picking one up. Did anyone change the switch wiring or did you keep the vintage setup? I played a G&L ASAT a while back which I may revisit before I make my final decision. How do you think they compare? I've never had the opportunity to compare them side-by-side.
Thanks.
