I've been GASing for a Gretsch for a little while and found this Duo Jet on eBay that is in my price range (for now). The owner bought it from a guy who claims to have bought it in the 70s. What has been bugging me is that the neck has a wide headstock with a horseshoe inlay, humped-block neck inlays, and no zero fret (it also comes with dual Filtertrons and a Gretsch stamped Bigsby). Also, no seriel or model # on the back. I researched...can't find any Duo Jets with a wide headstock and horseshoe inlay, and the ones w/o a zero fret are from the 50s. I can't find the specs from the 70s either. I may not be seriously looking into this axe but I would like to know if it at least seems authentic for my own knowledge. I'm no expert on Gretsch's but I would trust your instincts. The guy has 12 deals and 1 has gone bad. He's had no deals under this current screen name in a year. He also said he's got a more vintage Duo but doesn't know when this one was made, he thinks the guy he bought it from got it in the 70's. He's being vague for a reason. I'm also leery about guys willing to ship out of the out of the country. Buyer be very aware.

My comments:
I agree with the points RC....too much vagueness (spelling?)
No serial number?....I don't buy it. (pun intended) Not a good track record as a seller.
This supposed to be from the late 70's? Now it could be the camera flash, but the binding on both the neck and the body is VERY white. After 25+ years, it should be turning yellow.
Also, there isn't a scratch on it. (even though it says there's some buckle rash) There's a good shot of the body where your right forearm would lay. There's no fading at all. nothing. I have a black Les Paul.....it shows EVERYTHING! Every scratch, every fingerprint, every dust particle, everybit of fade in shine. This thing looks brand new.
Can you say Chinese copy?

I just out of curiosity checked to see what this guitar sold for and noticed the seller added some more info on the serial and pot numbers. The pots date from about 1980 and the serial number is from 1990. I'll bet this is a newer guitar with a few changed parts. It sure doesn't seem to be a 70's Duo. I hope nobody here bought it.

I stayed clear. Need to save up $$ for the Ltd SRZ anyway. But I bet Filtertrons sound glorious through a KT45!
