I want a Tele and I think this one maybe a good 1st Tele for me. I like the 9.5 fretboard radius and the satin finish is kind of cool. This is an older one with the vintage hardware too. The pick-ups are OK but I'll change them most likely. My Tele Gas has increased since my Ghia came in so any help would be nice. Does anyone on the forum play one of these guitars?

I've looked at them on paper, never seen one in a store, I thought the radius was 12" on the Texas Hwy 1? The regular Hwy 1 's are thought fairly highly of for the price point.

Hey Tele62, your right it is 12" . The ad I read must have it wrong but I think I would like 12" better than 7" . I'm used to Andersons and modern guitars. I would really like to order an Anderson Tele but I think I may get this one to get a feel for the whole Tele thing before I drop over 2k on an Anderson.

I think Billyguitar has an older TAG Hollow T for sale , would probably be under $2K as mine was $2100 new. Drop him a note !

Thanks for the heads-up but I don't want a hollow T. And if I got an Anderson it would have to be just the way I want it. Solid body Ash, Butterscotch blond, oversized neck , maple board, 1 & 5/8 nut.

Well I pulled the trigger on a blond Hwy Texas Tele. I got it off the gear page forum for $550. It will be about two weeks before I get it but if I am excited about my first Tele. This is also the first guitar I've bought in almost 6 years.

Not a bad way to find out if you like a Tele. Give yourself time to adapt. I'd suggest not even playing the other guitars for a while. The tone control can be very useful on a Tele to take some spike off the top.

Yeah I would hate to spend $2000 on a custom guitar to only find out that Teles aren't for me. I think this guitar comes with Fender Texas Special pick-ups. I plan on using it as is for now but may change the pick-ups and saddles in a few months so if anyone has some suggestions for some nice mild/hot Tele pups with a vintage vibe like me know.

I just bought one these a few weeks backs as well. The 12" radius takes a little getting used to, and to me, the pickups sound very similar to the regular USA Tele ones. If I ever decide to change them, it would be to a set of OC Duff Vintage pickups. He rewound the bridge pickup in one of my teles and I really like the way it came out. Congrats on the new axe!

Well I got the guitar last week and after a few hours of set0up work it plays great. I switched the white pickgaurd out for a black one. I do not know why Fender puts white pickgaurds on these. It looks 100% better with a black gaurd. It still has the factory pick-ups (vintage hots) but that may change after I get a chance to play it more through the Ghia.

I love my highway 1 tele. Spare a thought for me, I'm in the UK so everything's well over priced. I paid £420, which was heavily discounted because of a couple of marks. That's about $750 - $800! Worth the money though. I've put some Wizard pickups in it (http://www.wizardpickupsltd.com/) and it plays beautifully. The finish is perfect for me, because I hate shiny guitars, and I love the way it looks like it's been around the world after only a few gigs! I just bought a Mazerati, which was discouted as ex-display. Paid £950, which at current exchange rates is just under $1800!
