There was a thread on here a while back about some higher end double electric bags. I've been using a Fender "Deluxe" gigbag for three years whenever I do fly-dates... Mainly because I can put a Strat & Tele in it and carry them on the plane. But the old Fender bag has seen it's better days, and instead of just replacing it with a new one, I want to upgrade.
Would love to hear some suggestions. Here's what I want-
A double gig bag that can be worn like a backpack and carried on a plane. But I'm willing to spend a little more to get something that's very sturdy and offers the proper protection. That Fender bag has worked fine, but my guitars have plenty of little dings since it's not a high-end deal...
Thanks for the ideas- J

Reunion Blues? Thay make great single bags. I have one leather one from the 1970s and a real nice padded one that I used to use for my L-5. www.reunionblues.com

I like the Levy's one. I was trying to find something like one of those softside hard ones but couldn't find a double. Looked along time andened up with the levy's off e-bay for $80.00 slightly used. I like it. Good storage good padding ect. I think its the CM77 model.

Jayson, can you still get a guitar in the cabin out of Gnashville? Our bass guy Hank hasn't had any trouble out of LAX or Burbank, but I haven't been able to get past security at DFW for some time now. I have a gigbag by Ritter (www.ritter-bags.com) that's so big its like like carrying a golf bag around, it won't even fit in my roadcase. Its supposed to be a double bag, there's plenty of room for 2 axes, but no divider. I usually check it filled up with some clothes for a long tour, then put the guitar in it when I get where I'm goin'. I think I'm gonna give up and get a Calton hard case that'll fit an S or T style and be done w/ it. Plum wo' out from luggin' ATA road cases around in airports. Hank has actually done 2 shows where he didn't even take a bass with him, just had the promoter get him one somewhere. (usually from the guy in the opening act, the cheapskates.) I tried to order a spare strat from the backline co. one time for a month long tour, and they sent this railroad tie w/ a 3 bolt neck....

I tried to order a spare strat from the backline co. one time for a month long tour, and they sent this railroad tie w/ a 3 bolt neck.... Ahhh... the dreaded "rented backline" guitar.... I was in Calgary a couple of weeks ago, and my buddy Jeff Carter (Deana's brother) was on the same bill playing with Jamie O'Neal. They had some problems and needed a rental guitar for Jeff. What they brought him was a... and I'm not kidding.... Chinese Squire Strat that I think they sell in Musicisian's Friend for about a buck & a quarter... He was cussin' after their show! As far as guitars on fly dates, I have always just carried on my double bag, along with my laptop. I check my pedalboard and suitcase... Just seems to be the most efficient way to do it. 9 times out of 10, even on puddle jumpers, the double Strat/Tele bag will fit in the overhead. Once in a blue moon they'll insist that I gate-check it, which I HATE.... And there are also even times that they'll insist that "It won't fit!" in the overhead until I show them that it will. This usually isn't the case at BNA though, since they have so many pickers come through there every day. I've learned though, if you make sure you are one of the first in line for boarding, you can usually make sure to find an overhead spot, or sweet talk to flight attendants into letting you put the gig bag in the sport-coat closet. I've thought about going the ATA case route before, but with a double case it would probably be overweight, and we all know how these cheap artists are about paying for incendentals.... LOL Oh, and by the way, I'm beginning to think that the WORLD goes through DFW.... J

Local adage...Don't matter if you're headed for the good place or the bad place when ya croak, ya gotta go through DeeEffDub first.
