Which one is the Wreck? I could tell the Wreck was on the right! (head box is bigger) Congrats!! That 'Wreck looks awesome....but that Z 28 stack looks mighty sweet too! Bet the packing was better this time around!

Bet the packing was better this time around! Mucho better packing. Don't think I'm going to take the Z28,2x12 combo tho. If the 28 had any headroom whatsoever I would be all over it, that amp sounded really, really good. I think the Wreck is the best sounding amp I've ever played, can't wait for the speakers to break in. Two gigs this weekend to get them started.

Man,i am feelin' the same way for exactly the same reason, albeit the economy route... Last week my mint used z28 arrived, and today my RED Zwreck head is "out for delivery". I feel like your cheapskate country cousin, i'm lovin' it!

^^^ Time for an interim report between practice and the gig! Well..................my Galaxie sounds incredible through the wreck cab. I might be the victim of new production tubes. The wreck was sounding kinda dull and was sitting a bit weird in the mix so I switched it out with the Gal about half way through. So it looks like I've got some tube testing to do. So would you consider the Wreck to be a dark sounding amp or should it be able to tear my head off if needed?

The wreck I played at make n music was not dark at all! Loud, clean, cutting came to mind. Powerful. Intimidating.

Certainly one can dial in a fair amount of low end and cut back on the highs, but imo the base tone is not dark. I like to call the sound "silvery."

^^^ "Silvery" !! I love that descriptive, tone word Mike! Spot on. I don't find the 'Wreck dark either. In fact, mine has more highs, twang & "silvery" sparkle than I would ever need. I do find that side by side with my Remedy stack, the Z Wreck has way more mids which kinda surprised me. Now every time I plug into my 'Wreck, I hear that fat thick mid punch coming through. It may even be the speakers in that 'Wreck cab Randal... I have no doubt, you'll figure it out~

So would you consider the Wreck to be a dark sounding amp or should it be able to tear my head off if needed? I would never classify the Z-Wreck as dark. I've tried mine with the Strat and Tele and in both instances, it was great. Plenty of sparkle...no fizzyness at all. However, I have never tried humbuckers in mine (likely never will ;D) so I'm not sure how that would sound. I suspect a humbucker and the natural compression of the tubes/alnico speakers (one past noon) could get a bit 'puckered', I guess. When you say it seems dark, were you using single coils or humbuckers? Keith

Those are both foreign terms when it comes to Z Wreck descriptions. Also I found it quite strange that you would find it not cutting thru in the mix, because I never heard an amp cut thru like my wreck in a band situation! J5
