Hey All, Just wondering what products you are using to clean/polish your guitars. I have had great success with Gibson polish as well as the Maguires stuff. Anyone tried Dr. Duck Ax Wax? Thanks! Rick

Dr ducks ax wax is above average. A decent string lube, hard to use wax. A little goes a long way, seems to be quite oily and harder to work with. Lizzard spit seems to work very well, applys easily and comes off easy.

My Preferred Guitar Polish: www.zymol.com/crecar2.htmThis stuff is amazing and smells like a dream. This is NOT the Zymol you get at the local auto parts place........ The cheap stuff is mostly beeswax. This stuff is very high in real carnauba and it's just incredible. I use it on the car, too, but it's so great on anything. Heck, even woodwork! jh

I just spit on it. Not really, if a clear coat is there carnuba wax is great. I used some stuff from my body shop called Wizard, it's a finishing polish for cars. It makes things very slick feeling, even more so than carnuba.

I like the Ken Smith polish. Best I've ever used. His basses aren't bad, either ;D I think I'll buy some of that polish, since it's the only thing that Ken Smith makes that I could afford.... jh

Tom Anderson recommends Meguiars for his guitars. That's good enough for my Andy and the rest of the gang!

I have been using PRS Cleaner and Cream Based Polish for a while. Really nice stuff from what I have seen. Does a great job. I am interested in Stew-Mac's Preservation Polish though too. Sounds like a good product but have not gotten to try it.

Beer, spit and sweat !! I've never polished a guitar in my life. A true working guitarist !! ;D Actually the builder of my acoustic , Marc Beneteau told me a slightly damp ( water ) cloth such as 100% cotton is best . Says a lot of these waxes/polishes build up and cause problems .

The finish care products from Bruce Petros @ petrosguitars.com is the best that I have ever used. While you are there check out his acoustics; literally some of the best in the world. If you go to the 'gallery' part of the site, check out dream series #1; I'm the lucky owner!

Tele62 says Beer, Spit and Sweat! About 10 years ago I bought a 1951 Epiphone sunburst Triumph from a pawnshop for $189.00 with the original brown case. Talk about spit! That thing had spittle all over it, it was filthy and even green around some of the frets. I rubbed and polished that thing like crazy and couldn't get the spit spots off. It's a super nice guitar otherwise so I had the neck reset and new 6105 frets put in it. While it was in for that the guy finally had to buff out those spots. Looks great now but I couldn't rub them out by hand. I used to gig that guitar with a big DeArmond monkey on a stick pickup. Great for jump blues!

Scott Lentz uses this stuff.... www.brillianize.com I used to use it on metal detector consoles and archways for airports and courthouses at a day gig I had once upon a time...never thought about using it on a guitar. More a cleaner than a polish.

NNNOOOO!!!!!!! Say it isn't so! BW had a day gig! Oh how my heroes have fallen! seriously, looks like very cool stuff. I think a cleaner is really all that's necessary. That's why I like the Ken Smith stuff, it doesn't seem to leave anything behind. Talk about blood: Back in the early 70s I went to a drum clinic at the sadly gone Quigley's music here in KC. Roy (somebody) was the drum clinician. He said one time he got to sit in at a Gene Krupa gig on Krupa's drums. He said he was playing along and looked down and saw blood all over the place. He had cut himself on the hi-hats. He said Gene liked his cymbals to flash in the lights and used to polish his cymbals a lot with a buffer and compound. He said some parts of the cymbals were sharp as knives!

Trick would be to keep the guitar clean wouldn't it? Use Pennzoil, Quaker State, Castrol GTX, Valvoline, or Walmart oil in your car...but CHANGE the oil!

I use Harley Davidson detail cleaner and wax. It was recommended by John Suhr and works better than anything I have ever tried. Don't spray directly on the guitar. Spray on cloth and polish the guitar.

I'm a big fan of the Fender Instrument Care line by Meguiar's. Works great on both nitrocellulose and polyurethane finishes.

Is that in the same vein as " Don't buy a used Mustang GT from a 19 year old male" ?
