Hi, I am in need of some expert opinions....I really love the sound of the z wreck cab but my set up requires more wattage than the blue can handle so i was thinking of a good higher wattage substitute. I think I would like a set up with the gold and the vintage 30. Would that be an okay speaker combo? I have looked all over the web and I cant find anyone who has tried it before.
Thanks for the help - John

I don't know what the other guys know about speakers. But I'd think the V30 with a Gold would not be the best combo. 2 Golds would be better: JMO based on what little I know.

Well i havent even started on making my cab yet but i think that i would like them together because i was told that the vintage 30 had a very good high end sound that would make you cringe, i like that but i think it would be nice to get the softer low end of the gold to help even out the sound. "Over time, the high frequencies of a Blue soften and become less chalky as the cone becomes more flexible – a much sought after characteristic that the Gold exhibits straight out of the box."-celestion. I was looking at the graphs they had on there website and to me it looks like the gold dosent have the spike like the vintage 30 has.
I am playing thru a fender 1999 corona california americ made strat, Right now i have a egnater tweaker 40 watt.....Im thinkin for the cab i am making i will use 3/8" ply wood and will be 2x12. I like too play hard rock, modern worship, and metal.

I would go with the traditional G12H30 with the V30. A lot of folks use that combination. Personally I prefer the H with a G12M but I don't like that spike in the V30. Do you have some reason for wanting to mix alnico and ceramic? With the music you are playing ceramic all around should work fine and would be less expensive. The H has a great low end and top end with a scoop in the middle where the V30 fits in nicely once they are broken in.

Well i dont really know what combo to use because i love the sound set up on the z wreck cab but it wont work for me because i like using higher wattage. The reason i want to mix so badly is because i like trying new sound options. You see i am going to wire my cab soo that there will be many options, i will have it wired for mono 8ohms, the other mono 8ohms, both speakers mono with 4ohms done with parallel wiring, and stereo 8ohms for each amp all done with 2 DPDT toggle switches....the other amp head is a fender champion 600 which i am now in the process of moding. I was also thinking that if the combo dint sound great i would still have two incredibly good sounding options.

You could also do series for 16 ohms if your amps have a 16 ohm tap. That's how the zwreck cab is wired. As always the best way to tell is try it and see if your ears like it. We all hear things differently. If you already have a zwreck cab with the gold trying it with the V30 may be a good place to start.
