After reading rave reviews of Jason Lollar's pickups and having some extra cash from selling a Keeley Fuzz Head (which I really tried to like but never did), I've got to get a set for my B Bender, the 3 pickup Fender Parsons/Green model. Currently there's a Fralin BS in the bridge and a DiMarzio Twang King in the neck. I find the Fralin a little harsh and the Twang King is okay but doesn't knock my socks off. I emailed Mr. Lollar and he suggested either his 52 or his Vintage Tele set. Anyone here have any experience with either or both?

Hi rodeoclown, I have his Vintage Tele set in my '69 tele and I love them. I think the '52 set is cool if you want a more vintage sound like an old pickup. I personally prefer the feel of alnico V magnets and so I liked the Vintage Tele set more. You can't go wrong with either one though. He has mp3 of his tele pickups on his site now as well. www.lollarguitars.com/Pickups.htm

I have a lollar Vintage in the neck and Special in the bridge. I initially had a Vintage in the bridge as well, but it sounded too thin and bright for my tastes. I found that if I dialed in a great neck tone and then switched to the bridge pup, I was immediately reaching for the tone control. For me and my style of playing, the Special is just a better fit. It has a bit less treble and thicker mids. Since the Special is hotter, I thought I might have problems with balancing levels bewteen the two, but that's not the case. The middle position is very sweet also.
If you purchase from Acme Guitar Works, they will let you try the Lollars and return them for something else if desired. That's exactly what I did with the Vintage bridge & Special bridge.
Aruntang gave me the heads up on Lollar Strat pups, so I put some of the Blondes in my Strat about 2 months ago and am very happy. They replaced 2 Fralin Blues & a Steel Pole 43. I also felt the Fralin Blues were somewhat harsh. I've heard that Lindy charges his Alnico V really high, which causes the harshness.
Anyway, I don't think you can go wrong with any of Jason's pups.
Good luck!
Steve
