Hi I've been GASing for a Tele for a while now. I want a custom made body 'n' neck, but I am a bit wary of Warmoth and USA Customs (USA because they don't finish in lacquer for one).
I'm looking to get a hollow ash body with no f-hole, double bound Albert Collins style, and a D shaped neck with a 1 11/16" wide nut and 6100 fret wire on an ebony board. I like Mooretone's strats, because they make it all to your specs, and I've heard they can do Teles, but I don't know if they can make a hollow body one. I also like Revelator Guitar Works bodies, but it's the same issue.
Also, I do want to buy or make a hollow steel-bodied tele like James Trussart's Steelcasters.

Look into "Stonetree" guitars for that tele...or RS Guitar works.

Those Trussarts are cool but I think you're paying a lot for a gimmick. I don't think Tom Anderson uses lacquer. I don't know what the finish is but it's thin and tough as nails. I've been playing my newer TA for over 2 years and all it's got is a couple of small dents in the finish. I'm a bit tough on my guitars so that little of damage is amazing for a guitar I use. Point is, even if a finish is not lacquer it may not be a bad thing. Stupid thick like Fender's 52 reissue Tele is another thing. That's just wrong. I can say so because I own one.

Yeah, that's why I want to make my own "Steelcaster," because paying $4000 for a piece of metal is a ripoff. But they look so cool! lol

Hi Gang, Mike Moore, Mooretone Vintage Guitars here. Thanks to skydog for thinking of us. If it helps any, we intented to add Tele-style guitars to our product line, but we have been so busy with one-off projects, our Prototype development and getting Inventions from the design and conceptual stage, to Prototype to Patent applications. We do have a Finisher/Re-Finisher we refer customers to, for custom or vintage applications--should you find yourself (skydog) finding the right neck and body combo. However, for the money, I hear really great things about Stonetree Teles. Obviously, Tom Anderson builds a great, great guitar and there are so many others as well--I also like the Melanchon lines. I think Lentz does a Tele style and does Grosch? Anyway...............I wish you the very best in your quest, and again, thank you for thinking of us, and I am sorry we are just a small concern, and have not had the time or money to add the Tele style to our product line--we won't just toss out a model, unless we know it inside and out, and feel it will play/sound as it should--that takes alot of time and money to develop it properly. Also, I would like to just say, that all Forums should be run like this one--Bravo to the Z-people for creating such a well moderated, and decent forum, and to all who respect it herein. Thanks all!
