I recently picked up a "cheapie" guitar. It's NOT a Tele or Tele clone... but it is somewhat Tele-inspired, if you will. Also, it's a "string through"... not a "top loader." And the scale is 25.5"
I'm looking to change the bridge plate and saddles, though. I've looked at both the Callaham and Glendale sites, and am leaning a bit more towards the Glendale... because of the magnetic plate they offer.
After viewing images of bridge plates at the Callaham site, I see that the plate currently on my guitar is sort of a hybrid of the Vintage and American Standard plates.
Callaham Vintage Bridge Plate
Just like the Vintage plate above, the 6 "string holes" on my plate are waaay at the rear, behind the holes for the mounting screws that attach the plate to the guitar. It appears in the image below, however, that the string holes on the American Standard are in front of the plate's mounting holes.
Callaham American Standard Bridge Plate
But just like the American Standard plate, the plate on my guitar has only 3 mounting screws.
In short, it seems like:
A) An American Standard plate may bolt-up to my guitar, but the strings holes in the plate wouldn't line-up correctly. It seems as though the strings would go through the body... then have to bend 90 degrees and be sandwiched in between the plate and guitar until they reached the string holes in the bridge plate... then bend back to go through the plate. Less than ideal, no?
or
B) A Vintage plate would require me to make a couple of holes in the guitar for the 2 "inner" screws (assuming the 2 "outer" screws line-up), but at least the strings ought to go straight through just fine (I think...?) and the plate would cover up the one vacant hole from the previous bolt/screw pattern.
Thus, I think the Vintage plate would be my best bet.
So... now to my query for you "Tele experts" out there:
Are there any other things I need to consider/measure/be aware of?
Location of the rear pickup, perhaps?
Dimensions of the plate itself? Is my plate longer?
Etc.
Any thoughts/suggestions y'all may have are greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
