The new Tele came to life on Friday. Her wood's USA Custom (two-piece ash body, AAA birdseye maple neck w/a pau ferro fingerboard, Callaham clay dots), hardware's the Callaham bundle w/a 4-way switch, pups are Fralins (Vintage Hot neck and Blue Special bridge), nitro finish by Gord Miller, up in Victoria, B.C. She plays and sounds so sweet... And I suppose I should post the FrankenTele, too. Started out life as a American Standard, then I put the Fralin Steel Poles in, then swapped the bridge for a Callaham and the neck for a USA Custom (flame maple, indian rosewood, Callaham clay dots) that Gord finsished with nitro. It's not quite a Tele, but it's mighty cool. Twangy, but with a bell-like clarity you don't expect from a Tele. Eric Daw at Emerald City Guitars put both of these together, and did a great job.

They look beautiful BKS. I have always liked USA custom guitars work. Is Gord Miller working with USA Custom now or did you find him? Love the finish.

Gord was recommended by the guys at Emerald City. He does his own thing, finishing, refinishing, relic-ing, and building. When he dropped off my parts he had some refins and a from-scratch with him that I got a look at, including a '50-something Nocaster refin/relic that was awesome, and a from-scratch relic-ed '50s Strat that I was ready to pull out the checkbook for, until I remembered how much I'd already thrown into the Tele... Lemme know if you want his contact info... Here are some closer shots of the bod...you still can't really appreciate the transparency of the finish, unfortunately, because I'm no photographer, but it's still a better idea of how good a job Gord did. Very nice guitars! Isn't it great to play something you put together yourself? Good luck with the Teles.

Like the guitars. They both look real nice.
What does the 4 way switch do extra?
Also, could someone post a link to get info on the Callaham products?
Thanks

The extra position is the neck and bridge pickups in series. I hear a lot of folks say that it's there to give the neck a little boost, and on my Teles it is the loudest position, but it isn't really the same tone as the neck. It comes close to the neck/bridge parallel position (middle on a standard 3-way switch), but with only the slightest bit of "twang". It's essentially the same as this S-1 switching business on the American Deluxe models. Considering you can get it installed at most shops for $20 or so, seems to me it's the single easiest way to beef up a Tele. Here's the link to the Callaham site: www.callahamguitars.com/
