The last time anyone came up to me, wowed about my tone, asking about the amp I was using was a few months ago.
That night I was playing a 57RI Strat thru a Carmen Ghia head with a Mesa Lonestar 2 x 12 ext cab. Oddly, the guy who was asking was a
"retired" rock star. The 80's hair band he played lead guitar in had eventually called it quits and these days he occasionally sits in with a local band when he gets the itch to play. His years of fame played out in front of a
wall of Marshalls. But that night the Ghia caught his ear. And he fancied the little green 'on' light. (Englishman) We had a beer during the break and he told me about his vintage Tele and Strat collection and I told him about my little Ghia. Go figure. He's retired from the business of rock and roll, is raising his kids in our area, and came in that night for some good old Texas chili. So he sat in with us for a couple of tunes.
And it was good.
Then came this past Saturday night. 4...count 'em...4 inquiries about the amp. This time it was the Wreck. I played the same Tele for 3 sets...a 50's blonde RW with Duncan 5/2s...and used the Brake Lite SA, keeping it on 1 or 2 most of the night. Comfort setting, VOL knob at a hair past 12 o'clock, Bass at 3 o'clock, Treble & Cut at 1 o'clock, and a bit of Timmy adding just the right bite. No retired rock stars in the crowd but the Wreck was the star of the night.
And it was good...very good.
Now, except for the Ghia, every other amp I own has become obsolete.
