I got on the Z Wreck band wagon when it was first announced in 2010. I was lucky enough to get #4 somehow. It is one awesome amplifier and I wish I could keep it. I have several other Z amps and a few other non Z's and the Z Wreck is just so nice, I don't want to take it anywhere. I can't afford to keep this amp as a home only amp...so the only logical answer for me is to reluctantly let it move on to new home. see BST section-

I may need to rethink this convoluted idea- !!!!! Is it bad for a man to have 6 great guitar amps?? I just get to feeling guilty when I'm not using them all equally. This may be a topic for another thread.... hummmm

I like to share my Zs - lotta people come over and play them. I don't have to play them all myself to enjoy them

Odd advice here, but if you bought the amp to play, then play it...if it gets beat up a little, so what? Unless you are starting a Z museum..... I bought a StingRay combo when they first came out, one of the orig run.... I paid over 2K at the time-alot of weekend gigs! I played it, it got some rash, some nicks, etc...so what? that is what it was for... I traded it, even though I liked it it was a bit too much of a specific amp...my point is this once you actually play them out is the only way you can really know what the amp will or will not do...I have narrowed my amp hoarding wayyyy down these days to amps I actually use....if you don;t use it, then essentially you have a stack of money sitting on your floor....I have perhaps what is one of if not the rarest Z of all, the Super Z.....there is not even a mention of them on the Z websight....that said, it ain;t a museum piece, I play it, got some pulls in the grill from my cat etc....its worthless to me if I don;t use it...and it will be worth what someone is willing to pay for it and not a penny more.....play em'!

Hey Marky T,
A) Dude, no guilt. If you can to afford to own a Wreck, own a Wreck, along with the other ones. Nobody cares. I once heard this saying that I think is so right on: when you are in your 20's you worry about what people think about you. When you're in your 40's you don't care what folk think about you. When you reach your 50-60's you realize nobody really thought about you in the first place. So, unless money is really tight around the house, no guilt. One feller's opinion (rationalization:-)). Just do some nice things for other folks less fortunate here and there, to balance such an extravagance - costs less than losing money on amps that you feel guilty about., and actually might do some good in the world.
B). If you bought a Wreck so you could enjoy it then resell it at the highest possible price as an investment, by all means keep it at home and all clean, et al. Of course, your gonna lose many hundreds of dollars doing so. Not much of an investment. However, I've never understood this methodology. I have friends that do it with cars, and the car sits in the garage all the time. What the .....? If the only reason you're selling the amp is because it only gets played at home .....? My philosophy is, I buy amps to play 'em, and half the fun of that is getting 'em out and playing 'em around town. So what if they get beat up? And they likely will. If, at the end of the next thirty years of playing this Wreck, she's all beat up, then all the more character she will have, like all my other old friends, human and 6-stringed. And I got to enjoy her for thirty years! That adds up to about $100 a year for all that fun and satisfaction. Worth it!
jj
enough rant already. jeez james, shut up!

ok...I have come to my senses... I may have been taken wrong above...or may have worded the OP wrong. I love my Z Wreck, but I like the the sound with of my Les Paul better through the Remedy. I had sold my Remedy shortly after getting the Z Wreck. Now I have bought the Remedy back and thought I would go ahead and move the 'Wreck. Now that I have both, again...I have all bases covered. What I meant by "too nice to take anywhere" is...that if I'm going to sell it, I would get more for it in mint condition than if it had some bruises. I never bought it for a $$ investment...only a "tonal" investment. It truly is a special amp and I am fortunate to be able to afford the 'Wreck and all my other amps & guitars. I've had some time off the past few weeks and have been really enjoying the Z Wreck and other Z amps. All this said...I do have a problem with having hi-end amps & guitars that are not getting 100% of my attention. There is something to be said about owning one guitar and one amp. Maybe again one day.....full circle.

I would play it at home or out on gigs, whatever you want. It is yours to use as you like. I have a RX ES head, a couple of different speaker cabs, an Egnator Rebel 30 head, 2- Fender Hot Rod DeVille 212's, 5 electric guitars from a '59-'60 Fender Duo Sonic to a '09 PRS Custom 24 10 top. I know how you feel about not being able to play them all at one time. I just grab whatever fits the mood I'm in for a particular gig and go have fun. Seems like no matter what I play, I still wind up sounding like "me" so I just go for it and next gig I might take a completley different rig. I am thankful that I have been able to afford all these wonderful tools/toys that I've been blessed with and have a somewhat understanding wife when it comes to GAS. Just have fun with it and enjoy all of them. As far as worrying about the value of the amp down the road, have you seen some of the prices they are asking/getting for some of the older amps that have all stages of road rash. Your grandchildren might be able to retire early from the sale of your Z Wreck down the road. I'm just saying.....

This is just me. I have decided. If I don't owe for it. Might as well keep it. No matter how bad I may want another amp. When I think of some of the stuff I've given away to buy something different then later bought it over again. That's just silly. I have no doubt DR Z's will be really expensive some day. There won't ever me another DR Z.

Almost a year has passed and I have enjoyed it these 10 more months, but the decision has been made...again-
Time for this amp to move on to another happy home.
I WILL miss it dearly.

I feel your pain Mark. As you know, I went through this same thing a few months ago. Yes - I miss the Z-Wreck tone, but if I had it back I would not play it because it was just too loud. If the doc can ever come up with a way to bring the volume down while retaining that tone, I'll jump back in immediately. In the mean time, I cannot reasonably keep anything I don't use.

Doc makes such a great master volume on his other amps..It would be great to see one on the wreck. I tried mine with an air brake but it was just not the same tone. I find the master on my maz to be very transparent. Love that amp.

Sorry you're selling it Mark. One thought...
If you're worried about it getting messed up, then buy a head version in one of the standard tolex colors, and use whatever cabs you have. If the head ever gets dinged up that bad you could always buy another empty head cab from Doc.
All amps are meant to be played though, so if it's not getting any play time for other reasons then move it along.
Just my .02 cents!

i can't think of a better lookin' rig than a lovingly beat silver z wreck set. use it!!!!! My classy original Quantam Silver Set is gone- Can't use it. To each his own. I could not bring myself to obsess over putting ding on it. That said...waiting to hear from Jake at Humbucker on a certain peticular...then putting in an order for a Blonde Z Wreck head. ;D I've decided I can not live without the glorious tones the Z Wreck produces , but I can live without the cab and the classy color.

Mark, don't feel bad; I loved my Maz18 but kept thinking it was overkill for home. It's kinda like having a really gorgeous blonde girlfriend, but you KNOW you'll never marry her! Ok, maybe pushing it a bit... Anyway, I finally came to a conclusion and sold her to a lucky duck, and bought a Maz8. Yep, it IS another blonde...
