I got my new red Monza head a few days ago and i want to share some thoughts...
Holy s..., this things rocks!! I played it through my custom made 1x12" and 2x10", both loaded with Celestion Gold Bulldogs, and that little red nasty bastard roars!! Seems like he is eating Full-Stacks for breakfast... ;D
As i expected, it has a little too much gain for my style of playing. Anything over Volume 11-12 o'clock is too much for me. Drive is set at 9 o'clock max.! Tone between 12 and 3 o'clock, depends on guitar...
I decided to change the tubes to see how it sounds. I pulled the Preamp tubes and put in tow GE NOS 5751 which have less gain than the stock JJ. It really helps. Beautiful crunch tones! I also put in a pair of TAD EL 84 and took the stock JJ's as a backup! Really happy now. Especially with the 5751 in the preamp! It's worth a try!
The Monza is really a great little amp, but it's really really loud. Even too loud for band rehearsel, I had to use an attenuator (TAD Silencer). So i'm thinking about getting that Master Volume Mod (if the german dealer is able to do it...).
Any thoughts?
Thanks!
Frank

The MV mod really helps tame the beast. Also, the Monza is very sensitive to using a guitar's volume control to get it a bit cleaner.
