Hi Everybody!
Coming Saturday I'll get my third Z, a red Monza Head! Pretty excited right now...
Have you Z-Monza-Heads ever tried out different tubes? I'm not the high gain guy, so i wonder if you get a little more clean/light crunch headroom by putting in different tubes, like a 5751 or something?
What are your favorites in V1 and V2? Also ever tried different in V1 and V2?
Thanks for all your posts, what an amazing forum!!
Stay tuned, frank

Hi Frank, Welcome to the Monza forum!! I am sure you'll love the amp. When I first got my Red Monza I played around with tubes (honestly dont remember what I tried) but I went straight back to the stock tubes. They gave me a good balance. This is a gain monster so you may have to rely on your guitar volume more for clean head room. Don't give up on the amp too early though, spend lots of time with it and play with all the knobs, they all make a difference. My favorite setting is before the Master Volume Mod was to run the Brake lite at 2, volume at 11 oclock, drive at 11 and tone set at 1 oclock. If you back off the brake and run the volume closer to 9 o clock it should be louder and cleaner my 2 cents, Todd

A 5751 would be worth a try to get more headroom, since it only has 75% gain of a 12AX7, wont hurt the amp either. I love old tubes, RCA, GE, Mullard's are my favorites. New production tubes don't have the tone or quality the old NOS tubes have. They are not all that expensive on Ebay, just buy from a reputable seller. You will notice a difference. I ordered my Monza yesterday, should have it by thursday. I had the opportunity to play one before I bought one. It is what I have been looking for for a long time. A grab and go that you dont need to use pedals with to get "that" tone. I owned a Ghia for awhile, and even though it was one of the best clean amps I have ever heard, or played through, it was loud, and did not break up till ear splitting volume, so I had to use pedals in front of it.

Thanks!!
yes, i'm also pretty sure i'll love the amp. can't wait to hear how much gain it will deliver... I'm thinking about having a two amp setup, my EZG for the cleans and the monza for the gain, i have to try that...
I have a couple of GE NOS 5751 at home, so i maybe put them in. since it is a gain monster should i expect any noise or humming or something with weaker tubes?
by the way, does it have enough bass? my EZG has almost too much of it, but i'm curios how the 1 Tone Knob thing will work... do you guys play more singlecoil or humbuckers through the monza?

Using a 5751 should not make any noise, it is still a 12AX7 type tube. As long as the tube is good. I am not familiar with the EZG, but the 1x10 Monza that I played through seemed to have plenty of low end, which is surprizing for a 10" speaker. The tone knob is very interactive. If it's anything like the GHIA, which I'm sure it is, it's has an amazing amount of tonal capabilty.
