I think I've read that some players use a 5AR4/GZ34 rectifier tube in their Ghias rather than the 5Y3. Is this a safe thing to do?

I've read that its safe but it will wear your 84's out quicker. It will also reduce the sag of the amp a bit - make it tighter sounding & less spongy if you will. I like to use a 5V4G in mine - it's a nice balance to my ears.
