Hey,
I a new member to Z-Talk. I am interested in purchasing a 1X12 Monza. Just had some questions though. I am a Marshall guy and have played full stack s and half stacks in the past. I have always liked that full sound. Nowadays though I am tired of lugging all those cabinets around as now I am playing smaller gigs at smaller clubs. I just want something that is grab and go. Volume is an issue though. My 800's have master volume so that helps alot. But 50 and 100 watts is still way to much. I was wanting to know if the AB lite shows considerable drops in volume. Because I would still like to run the Monza full tilt or pretty close to full volume without cutting peoples heads off. And is the tone effected greatly by the AB lite and if so how?

Hey! Welcome to the forum, looking forward to getting to know you and hopefully we can help you with your decision. I answer the easy question first. Yes, the brake lite can affect your tone. Of the 4 Z amps in my house the brake lite affects my Monza more than the others. This said, there is good news of good tiding and great joy . . . wait, thats a different story . . . . . There is good news coming. The next addition Monza will have a Master Volume!! Also, if you buy the current addition Monza you will soon be able to send it in to Dr Z and have the MV added to it! I played a MV Monza at Zfest this year and it is very very cool. Cuts the volume without killing the tone. As for replacing your Marshal stack or half stack with a single speaker? I love the sound of a 4x12 roaring away, nothing like all that air moving past you. That said, I love the Monza, it has an awesome roar to it, my open back combo really fills the rooms and has no problem over powering my drummer and bass player! The best part, is for 35 pounds I can carry it anywhere, it I need sound, I pack up my zbest 2x12 or my old ampeg 4x12 (by the way, I've never needed to do either). just some thoughts, God bless, Todd

Hey Todd thanks,
You say there is no problem over powering a drummer. Is the Monza really as loud as they say it is, and does the AB lite do a good job helping manage volumes in that respect?
Thank for your input, Miles

^^^ its loud! The brake lite on 2 will sound good and will help with the volume some but its still pretty loud, will also depend on where you want to run the volume at as well. I run mine volume at about 10:30 to eleven with drive at 11 and tone at about 1. If I click the brake lite down to 0 its blistering, click to 2 its better but at 3 or 4 I don't like the way it sounds. I guess its hard to say whats going to be too loud for you. I will ask when the MV Monza will be available, that might be the best way to go unless you are looking for a used one. This all said, the volume can managed, you might have to be creative (read some of my other posts about putting my extension cab in a closet), but the tone is there, its a great sounding higher gain amp, that has the DR Z characteristics of clarity and articulation that many other amps miss. Have you played one yet? Todd

No I have not played one yet, but I am planning a trip to Rossville. I live in Atl. Ga. so its only like an hour and a half away. I am excited about that trip I cant wait to play one of those beast. The only reason I ask about the volume, is for a live situation. I play a 50 watt 800 2205 for some of the smaller and bigger clubs. I never get the the master volume over 3 or so.
And to tell you the truth I need something different. And all the Dr Z amps have impressed me. But the Monza seems like it is more in my territory. Just plug and play, THATS WHAT I LIKE!
Thanks for the info. This forum is great! Everyone is so helpful. I hope to be a Dr Z owner very soon.
Thanks Miles

The Monza is a LOUD amp. If you have volume concerns I'd seriously consider waiting for the MV version. It is a great sounding amp but it shines when turned up. I love mine but I will be right there in line for the MV mod when it becomes available. Why? I suspect it will give me more options on how to run the amp. More is better, right?

It would be interesting to find out how many Stingrays are owned by forum members. Mine was Black and Tan Blonde (my drinking prefs are shining through! ) when I got it.......it might go back that way some day. We'll see.

Master volume Monza? Maybe I'll send mine in for the mod...but I have been pretty happy with the Air Brake hooked up to mine. It's a stellar amp! Sounds like they are just getting better!
