I have a deal in the works for one of these. well used and loaded with G12t-75s I think. looks like a convenient size, anyway, got some idle speakers I'm thinking of loading it with ET65s or a combo of 65,75,or V30 as an option for the Remedy.
just wondering if any of you guys are familiar with this cab and any comments you would have.
Thanks, Mike

IIRC, they are not very deep and can seem short on bass for their typical application, so Marshall loads them with bassy speakers.
I do like the look.

Thanks Jan Looks like the base is around 12" deep but I can't seem to find data on the slant. About 22" square, give or take?

Mike, I just realized that you typed 1966A and my brain went 1922A, different animals for sure.
Looking at my notes again, I have ~ 24" square and 11.75" deep for 1965 and 1966 cabinets. They were made from '84 to '91.

Thanks again. Yeah this is like a mini stack top. I think I've seen some 4x10s this size. Never seen nor heard one of these that I can recall.

The 1966x were 2 x 12 and the 1965x were 4 x 10. Both were made with birch plywood and probably better materials and construction all around from what is used lately (except for the tiny, cheap speaker wire they use).

Ha-ha! Yeah the first thing the guy said was that he upgraded the speaker wire. Good stuff!

So, you recon that it's worth a go for $200?

If structurally sound and cosmetically okay, yes $200 sounds like a good deal. Some folks like those G12T-75s lots. If it has G1265s, just send them to me. I would put some Greenbacks in and rock on.

The 1966 is a decent cab, but it's not very wide, so it doesn't fit all amp heads particularly well ("standard" Marshall "big box" heads like jcm 800s, 900s, DSLs will hang over the edges - most z heads will fit just fine. It will not fit well in a "standard" road case for a Marshall 2x12.
The 1966 lacks a little bass response compared to the 1936 or 1922 cabs (since the 1936 & 1922 are bigger boxes - side by side speaker pattern), but their compact size makes 'em a little easier to haul.
I have a few 1936 cabs and a 1922 (g12-75s, greenbacks, and g12-65s). I prefer them as they can accommodate the DSL head I occasionally gig with.
$200 is basically FMV for a 1966 - If it's one of the silver jubilee series (gray tolex) it's probably worth a little more.

I have a 1966 cabinet that was originally loaded with G12-75's. Didn't really like the 75's so I gave one away to a guy I met at a gig that needed one but had no money and sold the other. Then I loaded them up with a pair of Greenbacks, stuck the Remedy on top, plugged in and.... OH YEAH! $200 for a 2x12 cab, loaded or unloaded sounds like a go to me. Please excuse the Vibrolux (it's been moved and replaced by a EZG-50).

I'd jump on that cab for $200...they usually go for $300-350 used. I've got the 4X10, but I've played thru the 2X12's, they both sound great I think. You can kind of approximate the 4X12 sound with the 2X12, but way lighter and easier to deal with gig-wise.

gave it a shot today and it will stay has some good wear on the grill cloth that maybe I'll replace but I kinda like the vibe.(discount!) I actually didn't dislike the 75s as much as I remember, maybe just part of me wanting to go back to the 80s I think I will eventually load this guy with WGS Green Berets and it will be exactly what I'm looking for. thanks for the comments and the pics, just the info that i needed. here's a pic of trying it out. you get to see my super mess and poor phone photo skills. the mic at the cab isn't doing anything, it was just on a swivel gooseneck that was just there.

nice looking set up there. I always wanted to try one of those out. Has that classic sweet look of the 4x12 but in a way more realistic size and volume.
