Since I got the JAZ I have been mainly using my LP's with it and am quite pleased with the results. I have used a tele, and a strat and was also impressed. There is just something about this amp that sounds really good. I mean, all the Z amps I have are incredible.... but this JAZ really has me captivated. It has the headroom needed with buckers, and that great Z overdrive. A rare combination. It's a bit too early to say, only had it for about a month....but this may be my favorite Z amp that I have tried.
A few days ago I busted out my 63' reissue ES335. Ohhh man.... I stumbeled onto a great combination here. All kinds of awesome tones. I have been setting my EQ a bit different than I see posted here. I am using a Celestion Gold and....
Bass- almost full.
Mids- half
Treble- almost off
Volume 2:00
Master 2:00
40 watts. No attenuation.
I get so many shades of tone with my volume knobs is scarey. With both pickups on and the volume's and tone's rolled back it's BB King heaven, I can really nail that tone. That is a tone that has been rather elusive for me..... at a loud volume.
Crank up the guitar volume and switch to bridge it's the most impressive chest pounding classic rock tone ala Zepplin, old school Gibbons. The trem sounds absoultey great clean, but once the volume is up, natural overdrive set's in and everything is gelling..... watch out. It's really, really good.
I switch to the neck and drop the volume a touch, it's really close to Hendrixy, for a Gibson. A really nice, clear, presice, neck pickup tone. Chords also hold up very well... ring like a bell.
The 335 and the JAZ is an impressive combination.
Every Z amp I have is awesome in one way or another. This JAZ, and my playing style really mesh. Too bad it's discontinued, and the JAZ threads here are so slow..... I think I know why. We are all playing the crap outta them.
I'm already going to take it to "band practice" this weekend. See what the guy's think. I have been using a Remedy there and a Zbest. Gonna give the JAZ a go and see what it sounds like in a band setting. Probabally have some re-EQ-ing to do... but I'm looking foward to Saturday morning practice.
