Hi gang, Allow me to introduce myself..... My name is Alex Lusht, I'm a partner in a new production company called Mind Ignition based out of The Queen City, Cincinnati, Ohio. We make films of concerts and such for broadcast on the web. we've got some great stuff up and tons more on the way. Check it out if you would like, it's free! mindignitionchannel.comSo, enough with the plug...... he he.... I've been swimming around here for a while, enjoying the good vibes and such, and looking forward to the day I could join in the fun. I just won my Ghia on the ebay site and I can't wait to get her fired up. Now I just need to decide on a cab..... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I play through an old silver face deluxe right now( but it has been heavily modded by the Great Dr. David Sarge in Happy Valley, PA), and sometimes my new Kustom coupe. I dig both amps but....... Been eyeballing the ghia for some time! I play my late 90's Comanche most of the time or sometimes my Jerry Jones for the raunchy stuff.... I really dig all kinds of stuff, from Minor Threat to Danny Gatton and beyond! Can't play it all, but I have a lifetime ahead to learn now don't I? A couple of pedals... been fiddling with the Klon, but now I think I'll sell it, some wha action now and again, the good old Super Overdrive from boss, a microvibe, the green line 6 delay, etc etc.... I'm not really pedal crazy but messing with some cool stuff is always fun. I am about to start gigging with some cats here in Cincy, in particular Mr G Burton, an exceptionally talented singer/ songwriter/ guitarist(check out songtrucker.com if you're so inclined). I'm really looking forward to that. There will be a few, yea that's right .....a few as in 3 "lead" players in the band, plus Greg on acoustic! Tha's 4 of us on guitars!!!! MMUUUUHHHAAWWHHAWWHAAHWW. Should be a TON of fun. These cats can really play. It's kind of a classic rock ala mustaches and Gibson's kind of vibe. Fun Stuff.... Anyhoo, thought I'd join the fray, and hang with all the "in" crowd for a while here in Z Land... again any suggestions on a cab would be appreciated. If you're ever in the Queen City give me a holler...we'll do some pickin... Peace, Alex

Some folks really like a Celestion Blue with the Ghia. I'll know more about that as I expect my new Ghia to be ready on or about April 1 -- no foolin'.
I'm pretty sure I saw the Ghia you bought on eBay - black tolex with a red face (?) - there was no photo of the rear of it. I'm curious how old it is and if it has both 4 and 8 ohm outputs. I'm not sure exactly when the Doc 'standardized' the Ghia with two outputs, some (older) Ghia's have only 1 output (usually 8 ohms, I think).
Since you're in Cinci, I'm sure Don will be happy to join yer band so you'll have 4 lead pluckers.

Welcome aboard Alex! Think you made a great decision to get the Ghia head. As for cabinet to match? My understanding of the amp is that everything sounds good - it really will depend on what your preferences are. Me, I've already got a Z-28 and a 2x10 cab, and am awaiting a Ghia and a 1x12 cab - opens up a bunch of opportunities.
happy shopping ;D

Thanks Lefty, kc, and jmb27! It's good to be here!
kc, yup, that's the one I snagged. It's funny, Ive been looking for one for a while, like I mentioned before, and that one was cheep, and cool, and the feed back on the dude was cool, and I have a nostalgic side that likes things like "15th anniversary model",and even though I didn't see the back, my gut said...."Yea man, get it! It's got chicken heads for knobs!" So I'm hoping it rocks. I figure I can deal with whatever ohms the output needs to be. Also, .....which Don? There are a few "Cincinnati Don's" in my world these days! But..... with four lead guys, I could retire early! he he
So...I guess I'll wait till the amp gets here and see what the ohms need to be before I decide on the cab. I just know I'm gonna have to ruin it through the Kustom and Deluxe cabs right away( provided the ohms are right, of course,) to make sure it works!
Man I hope it is in good shape. I'll keep you posted......
Thanks again for the replies, Peace, Alex

Welcome to the Z family!! Hey Lefty, I was just at your site and see you are in Colorado. I toured all over there and lived in Summit Co. from 91-94 with a crazy rock and roll band called Electric Mud. MAN those were some amazing days. Ski all day rock all night! Ahhhhh.... The West IS the best people!

I was born in CO too lefty...just raised 12 000 miles to the south east! ;D I'm jealous Alex, I'm a Ghia Gasser! Hey Jaye. Wow you were born in one of my favorite states and live in one of the best countries! AND, as a bonus, your music on myspace is SICK!!!!! I really enjoy Drift, ...I'm listening to it now.... simply killer. GREAT voice, Great tones, Great overall mix! I'm very impressed! I sure would love to bring Mind Ignition down there and shoot your band for one of our shows. I had the great opportunity to live in Melbourne in 1989 for about 4 months. My dad was a Prof here in the States, at Penn State University, and he took a couple of sabbaticals in Australia. He has traveled the world and I think that it is his favorite country outside of the states. I got to join him and my mom about 3/4's of the way through their first run down there. It was SPECTACULAR!! We "took Holiday" and spent about 2 moths traveling around. I got to do some amazing stuff, like play my harmonica on top of Ayers Rock, ride the train through Queensland, snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef, go to the Sydney Opera House. All that kind of tourist stuff. MAN was it awesome........ So I'm sure I could convince the company to come down, if you could get us a place to crash......he he he..... As for the Ghia, I just got a reply from the ebay cat and I should have it by mid week... YEA BOOOOIIIIIIEEEEEEYYYY......... say hi to a kangaroo for me, and perhaps to one of those gnarly vampire bats up in Queensland..... Peace, Alex

Wow! You've actually done more than me! I've never been to "the rock" and haven't even been to Queensland! Did live in Melbourne for 11 years though. Thanks for the compliment, I've been checking out your site briefly, will get back and check it out in more detail. Sounds cool. I have a gig coming up at a very remote location (an island off the coast of Tasmania) that would be so cool to shoot. As for places to crash, well that can be arranged pretty easily. Be sure to tell us about the Ghia as I love hearing people's different opinions. I've heard clips of BW doing the Bluesbreakers with one and it sounded stellar but then you get the feeling BW would make any amp sound good. Love the look of yours too Have fun with it.

Born and raised here in CO. Love it aside from all the damn snow this year. I heard Colorado is a beautiful place. I met some real nice people that were on holidays from Boulder a couple of years ago and told me all about how nice it was over there and that I was welcom anytime. I find it hard to drag myself away from the ocean as I am a real beach-sea lover but it would have been great to have checked out those rocky's. By the way matt,I just wanted to comend you on your "great" taste in art as well as amps and geetars ;D. I too am a huge Josh Agle (SHAG) fan. I currently own Mellow Bacchanal and Luncheon on the grass and used to own 3 Black Crowes,Mr X's Valet and The Sky Lounge in my old house. He is an awesome artist, you got a groovy hip web site by the way dude!

So I finally got to speak with the seller from ebay today. He is a very cool cat, a real player/teacher/chicken picker, and I'm thrilled! I fully expect the Ghia to be a great one. We chatted about speaker choices, and he mentioned that he had tried lots of different options, but he liked a Vintage 30 best. I happen to have one in my Deluxe right now. I was thinking about putting the Eminence back in the deluxe and putting the Vintage 30 in an empty box... BUT I have no empty box.... SO, can I just build one? Anyone ever do this or know how to get "specks" to do it? I'm gonna search around for a while but I figured I'd ask some fellow Z heads as well.
The bad news is that I have to go on "tour" for a few days starting this Thursday to do sound design for the Xavier University singers show, and I just know the head will get here while I'm gone, that's going to make me crazy!
So there's an update, I'll let y'all know if it gets here before I split... Again, any "home made cab designs" would be greatly appreciated! Peace, Alex

Like KC mentioned, the lopoline stuff is very good for the money. I have 2 of their 1x12 cabs... 1 open back and 1 closed back. The only thing with those cabs is the wiring and speaker jacks are not good. Replace those 2 things and the cab is tight and well made and very reasonably priced. They sell on ebay all the time.

Here are my two Lopo 1x12's (under the Maz combo). The black one (my gold piping added) is an open back with a 50 watt ceramic Silver Bell and the blonde one is a closed back with a 50 watt ceramic Blue Dog. After tightening up all the screws to get rid of a buzz, they have been fine cabs.

Yea!!! I got to play her!!!!!
Thanks for the Lopoline tips and pointers ridgeback and kledbet. I did find those cabs on ebay. Seems like a great price for a cab that I could experiment with different speakers in.
And I'd like to hear it through a 4x10 too!
I just plugged her into my Deluxe reverb cab that has a V30 in it. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO COOOOOOOOOOLLLL!! I love it. Great touch, excellent compression, the tone knob is really cool, like everyone says,... Really sweet. I will have fun getting to know this little baby.
I do have a question though... What is the black cylinder second from the very left tube? Is that a solid state rectifier? Should/could I put a tube there?
I'm really interested in finding out what the black cylinder is.... It has the J/J tube logo on it, that's about all I can read as the metal casing obstructs the other words/lettering.... So thanks again for all your help everyone....
Awesome, awesome, awesome! I love getting new gear...... So, if anyone wants my Kustom Coupe 36 watt.... it's yours for $425 plus shipping! HA!!! HA!!

Thank you for becoming a member! We have some really cool shows in the can with some AMAZING guitar players coming very soon. Besides the bands that are on there now, ( the 500 Miles to Memphis show is almost done, it's a rockabilly/punkabilly blast! and the Turnbull AC's will be done in a couple of weeks.......) we have a couple of brand new shows with a couple of real killers on guitar. The bands are Eclipse and World Wide, both from the Queen City. Both bands guitarists are jazz/funk/ fusion rockers, amazing stuff.... Also, I'm going to do some short guitar instructional vids so you will see the Ghia soon as well! Again, great to have you on board, we are JUST beginning, lots more fun to come. Peace, Alex....

Hi Alex,
I have 2 Ghias, and my combo has a Celestion Blue in it. It's the most incredible sounding combination I've ever heard. I also use a 1x12 cab with a Celestion V30 for my Ghia and Mazerati heads. Again, a terrific sounding combination. But if I had just one choice of speaker to use, it would be the Blue, hands down.
Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum. Don Hey Don, Thanks for the tip! Who do you play with? I see you are in the Cincy area, I'd love to come check out your rig. Another great sounding "Z" rig is used by Arron in the Cincy based band Lo-Fi. He plays a RT 66 and gets great tones. I might have to get one! Also, the young man in a band called The Highway Junkies plays a Stang and I swear this kid is going to be the next Brad Paisley. He can KILL it and he is just 17! Tons of great players around these parts, thats for sure! On a sad note, my Ghia has started blowing fuses and is already in the shop. BOOOOOOOO!!! I guess I spoke to soon when I thought my ebay transaction was all smooth. Oh well, I hope the tech can fix it, the little time I got it to work it was great. I should know something by Friday........Again I say BOOOOOOOO.......

Sorry it took me awhile to respond, sometimes I get lost in these threads. The jack on my Lopo cab... at least one of them, was shorting out, and the cab was new. I took it to my tech who mentioned to me the quality of the jacks was poor. He replaced the jack and I can see that the new jack is much sturdier than the original. The cabs have 2 jacks in the back so I can still see the other original that was left in, and its cheaper. I know they say they are using Switchcraft parts, and maybe they are but it doesn't really seem like it to me. If you are a do it yourself kind of guy, putting in a new jack would not be hard.

Thanks kledbet. I'll keep an eye on them and replace if necessary. This might seem obvious but on the "shorting out" issue, you did know that Lopo uses 3-terminal jacks that can be wired to shunt and that they would act like they were shorting out if wired incorrectly. tnaluv1, I feel like we have hijacked your thread and I apologize but I'm done now. I hope you get your fuse blowing problem fixed soon. The Ghia is a cool amp.

Man I am so happy I could spit. I'm looking forward to gigging with it. I think I may save up and get the Z 1X12 and put the Celestion Blue Bell in it like Don and others have suggested....
