Ordered a new blonde 66 yesterday. Should be in my grubby hands by the end of next week. Decided to replace my stolen Z-28 with it's bigger, thicker brother. ;D

Hey Joel, I'll send a report once she comes in I thought long and hard about replacing it with another 28... But I think I'll like the thicker tones of the 66

I think you will enjoy the rt 66. I'm curious to know what you think about the differences being that you were very familiar with the Z28. Did you have to order a new cab also? I felt so bad to read about your equipment being stolen. I'm glad everything is working out as far as getting things replaced.

Let us know what you think--I'd be ver interested in hearing your thoughts on how the Rout 66 compares with the '28. Is it hugely loud in comparison? Is it really that "thick" vs the '28? I've had the jones for a Route 66 since I first discovered Z amps, so sooner or later...

The Rt 66 was my first Z amp. It is loud, so I picked up a Ghia. As much as I love the Ghia, the Rt has the most amazing 3D tone I have ever heard. The notes just go on forever. Makes me smile every time I turn up the volume:)

My primary use for the 66 will be as a platform for pedals, as my gigs tend to be very low volume. So I really needed a good clean tone that is 3D and had that EF86 front end that inhales pedals and makes the pedal sound like it's part of the amp. I love the overdrive tones on the 66, but I'll normally never get that loud ever. In fact my Z28 was too loud to use it's natural overdrive. So, I am looking for a great, warm, clean tone and the 66 or the 28 seem to fill that nicely.

If you think you may want a good attenuator for that beast I have an Alessandro "The Muzzle" for sale here on the forum. Will safely run two 8ohm cabs; $150 shipping included (check or M.O.)

Howdy,
Congrats, PRSPastor. Somehow I think you're gonna have a blast with those milkshake tones!

After owning several different Z's, I've settled happily on the 66.. big, thick, fat tones that sustain forever. Low volume or cranked, it always delivers. Wise choice!!!
