Those aren't lacquer cracks, it's just where the tolex meets at the corners

If it bothers you buy the metal corners. Like what's on other Z's

Definitely seams. I don't think the tolex would be lacquered in any case--would it?

I think maybe the guys that put the tolex on the cabinets get a little lacquered up now and then.

Hey all, and thanks for the query, good doctor. Been going through some changes, dudes, as life'll do ya. Has been all good, like a karma thang, the way things have worked together so well. Bought a house on Florida's east coast, it's on the inter coastal waterway, faces west so we get a beautiful sunset over the water most every day from our front porch. Its like living in a vacation house every day! Took a new job - a kinder, gentler version of what I've always done - way less stress! Integrating into that whole new thang has kept me pretty busy. And living on the river (and 3 blocks from the beach) has some fishing and surfing distractions that go along wif it! ONLY down side is the tiny new house has NO GUITAR ROOM, so that's a bit difficult, but we're going through the plans to add on to this little house, get the man cave recording rig back into action. Still playing music wif Skin N Bone and loving cranking it through the Wreck or the Remedy, as the mood may strike me, both killer great amps for just about anything we do from home rehearsal to studio to bar gigs!!!!!! Funny: did a little rehearsal with my son the other day through an old '60's brown Tolex Deluxe, and was amazed at how little tone there was - no bottom end and very midrangy. Gimme a Z! Lastly, seems I'm spending less time on the computer and more time pickin' guitar! That's a good thing (I think)! Anyway, still around and all is good and as soon as this economy improves I'm losing some o' that clunky sh!*-for sounding vintage gear that's taking up so much room around the house! =^)
jj
sorry for hijacking this thread. no harm intended.

Glad to hear that all is well James The new house sounds great! My in-law grand parents have a condo in Miami by the canal and the seing the sunset every night over the ocean is truly magical. Keep us posted on the remodel and addition of the new man cave. Gotta keep those Zs goin' And yeah, playin' more is always a good thing, we gotta say, I always enjoyed your post. Seem to always be positive and with a great sense of humor! Cheers Ben

And 'bout we round that count to an even 20 for the 4th of July weekend.
Note to those who've joined the board recently and still trying to figure out which Z to get next - I urge y'all to go read JJ's reviews of the different Z he's purchased and put threw their paces.

yeah that's just where they cut for the corner... you should see some of the other makers out there and how they do the corners... i make my own pedalboards and the corners are a beast... i've got to the point where i can get it just about like you have there but that's been hours and hours upon hours of practice...
i wouldn't worry tooo much about... just some black corners and youd be set...

IMO metal corners would be a sin on a Wreck. Now,onto a (somewhat) fix. Alot of headshells w/o corners will show signs of shrinking and spreading open. Dont laugh but shoe polish, the liquid type with the spongy dispenser end will fill voids better than trying to cheat with a magic marker. Let it dry, then buff it off. Also works on nicks/scratches on the sides/top,etc. Yes,it is still noticeable up close but from a short distance, you'd have to know where it once was.
Now for the tuff question...does Kiwi or other shoe polish makers have a match for the silver Wreck??? Sorry for the long winded ramblings if no one makes a Silver shoe polish, but it's the thought that counts.....lol

To the OP - I've looked at your pics several times. I looked at my wreck. I don't see what your upset about. How could that corner be better? Other that brackets. Which I like on other Z's. But it would diminish the quality on the Original Wrecks. JMHO

Perhaps the OP thought that tolex was wrapped over the corners, instead of being cut and seamed together?
That's the only explanation I can come up with for someone to think that the laquer in each corner are splitting open = that you didn't know how it was installed in the first place.
Cheers Ben

Typical corner cuts, and judging from the corner work on my Mesa Lonestar I'd say the cornering by the Z tolex dude is pretty darned good. I'd give him an A+. I'd give myself an F. That's hard to do.

I think the corners on the Quantum Silver Wrecks look great. If you ever take one of those leather corner protectors off a Mesa Boogie you will get a shock . . . they file the tolex down to reveal wood on the corners of the cabinet before applying the leather corners, so there is an ugly bit of exposed irregular wooden corner.
