I have a Bogner Shiva 2 10 combo in my living room nestled in my surround sound entertainment system. The system is loud enough to "Play" live with DVDs and CDs. I never really liked the Bogner. To get great sounds you have to play it loud. Don't like the reverb or 2 channel setup.
Will the Gia give me Clapton, Santana, Duane Allman, and a bunch of clean sounds?
Looking for simple but sweet, sustaining sounds for my living room. Have a 69 Marshall 50 watt plexi through an ols 4 x 12 Marshall slant with Greenbacks in the basement.

A Carmen Ghia will overpower most any stereo system. You would need an Air Brake. Many people use a Ghia to gig with, for instance Buddy Whittington when he plays concerts with John Mayall.

Billy,
I have Paradigm Studio 100s for the main speakers, Paradigm Servo 15 for the Sub and JBL 12" 3 ways for the rear speakers all driven by a B&K Reference 30 pre amp and B&K 200 watt amp.
Turn everything up and you at a live gig. If your ever in the neighborhood, stop in.

if you're finding the shiva to be too loud, the Ghia should be about right. I have both and, although the Ghia is incredible and does get loud, it doesn't get as loud as my 60 watt (6L6) shiva

The Ghia is great. And you can really dial in the amount of headroom you're looking for with tube selection. I think you'll be very happy with it.
And let me know if you plan to clean out your basement. ;D

I'll take your word for the volume! I'll also mention that gig level decibels will damage your hearing. Don't get mad. Just thought you wouldn't like the tinnitus that I, and many others, have from gigging. I find that recording and tracking in my home I have to remind myself to turn down the headphones, otherwise my ears get tired and ring later.

The Ghia is a pretty loud amp for only being 18 watts. But I think it can be opened up some when playing at home. I have mine downstairs in the basement and get to open it up pretty much whenever. Of course my wife has learned to tolerate the noise. It still gets pretty loud though. The plus side is the amp sounds good no matter what the volume is set at, so really it's a win win in my book.

Put a 12BH7A in V2 and you'll get a little more clean headroom for when you play it at lower volumes. Worked great for me..

At low levels the Ghia at below 9:00 has some of the nicest clean headroom already, even without the BH7. The BH7 will give the amp more of a jazz flavor. In any case .... the Ghia even at "18" watts has a lot of harmonic content as is VERY loud for an amp of this wattage. The other night I heard a Carmen Ghia next to an SRZ-65 at a live concert and they were just as loud as each other. The SRZ-65 is about 65 watts. If you want bedroom level distortion the Mini-Z may be something to look into.

Ghia and a Xotic AC will give you exactly what you are looking for.

The ghia works just fine as a living room amp for me...if I wait for everyone to go out! My wife tells me she can hear me noodling away when she is still in the car, approaching the house!!!

Ghia - It sounds incredible at low volumes with or without pedals. I have an Hotplate, but it's not necessary unless you want to use the Ghia volume as drive

My Ghia at my house with my ears is way to loud to play at saturation levels. (With single coils).

Dr Z amps are EXTREMELY compatible with pedals, so if you find an overdrive pedal that's to your liking, you'll have no problems volume-wise playing along to your stereo.

Yup, I just got my head and am running it through the Vintage 30 that is in my Deluxe Reverb. I've been jamming, ALL DAY baby, with my itunes running through the Mackie HR 824 monitors in our mixing room. With just my old Boss SD 1 and the Ghia at about 9 o'clock, Ive been getting tones from Allman Bros, to Black Crowes, to Hall and Oates, to CSNY, to Van the Man, Phish, some Psycodots, to Elton John, to Supertramp to Wolfmother and more. All with my G&L Commanche! It's been a GREAT day to say the least. As far as I can tell, there is nothing this amp and pedal can't do. I just put my Kustom Coupe 36 and Klon OD up for sale as I won't be needing them any more! So I think it's the perfect amp for what you are wanting to do. Just grab a pedal or two that you like and have fun! Peace, Alex

Either one will definitely rock your socks off ;D 'course a little bit of compression won't hurt either cheers, Joel

Get a good pedal as has been suggested above. The Ghia by itself isn't santana etc, but it's one of the most amazing amps you'll ever hear. I do have to agree with others that it's extremely loud cranked up especially in a house. I use a weber minimass which sounds good if the attenuation isn't set too low, which is great for smaller gigs or at home. With greenbacks it's great. Switching between tubescreamer, fuzzface and new version OCD is fantastic. But it's bloody loud turned up! Brett

I used mine last week on the gig. On a couple of the bluesier tunes we do I had it up to about 1:00. The drummer was giving it the eye on those solos cuz it was a little too loud and a little bright! He doesn't play hard, just loud enough for a full sound. I knew it was a bit loud but I figured I could get away with it for 24 bars, he caught me!
