I think the ovals have better tone, but that's just me. ;D

I have the oval front and love the amp but I gotta say that new front looks clean and classy.

Yeah, I'd still lie to get a combo with the oval

The votes are even 6 to 6 right now but the "Oval" fans seem to be the vocal majority.

I like the new design. It says "blackface" more than the oval, which kind of said, "look! OvaL!"

haven't looked to hard (here and ebay) but I can't see any new heads.
Can anyone post a pic?
I have no issue with the oval head though, quite like it actually.

I'm not a fan of the larger oval on the EZG-50 combo amps, but I don't mind the oval on the heads. It kind of gives it a unique look that has grown on me. Still, it's what's on the inside that counts here- it could look like almost anything since it sounds so good.

I ordered my head from Humbucker Music and was ready to replace the front panel the day I got it. They called me to let me know the design had changed and asked if I still wanted the amp. I told them I wanted it more than ever. I like the new look. AND I AM THE TIE BREAKER!!!

Everybody knows it ain't the oval that affects the sound... it's the color of the tolex. Yeesh! ;D
Seriously, though--a quick check of Z's web page and Google and I can't find pics of the new ones. I'm a little surprised the good Dr. would change it already, though, because it already seemed to be of the "modern" cosmetic layout (jewel lamp, "graphic" logo on front, etc.).

My vote is for the new 'square' front. Looks great with the Dr Z 4 x 10, which seems to be the preferred cabinet for the ezg 50. Cool.

I just got an oval front black head. Love the look, and am floored by the tone. This amp lives up to the hype.

I have both and like them equally! PS - I am speculating, but the changed look may partially be a result of functionality. I've noticed that the newer heads have the reverb pan located on the backside of the faceplate. Maybe the oval front wasn't ideal to relocate the pans. Of course, this is speculation....it could just be a cost savings thing (routing the oval likely isn't very cost effective relative to the square fronts).

If I recall getting the tolex to fit well/stay in the oval was one of the reasons for the change. Keith
