Hi guys, I need some advice as I have been offered a straight trade on my PRS SC245 (tortoise shell) for a Hamer Monaco Elite (aztec gold). The PRS is ok and I was thinking of trading up for a Les Paul. Whats the verdict guys?
My guitar is the same as this model in every way but mine has a better flame top.

My opinion? You can't go "wrong" with either guitar. I might go with the Hamer but I'd have to play them both. They're both very good axes.

As a Hamer owner (Newport), I'd again go for a Hamer. PRS's are awesome guitars, but I just never felt a PRS neck that tickled my fancy. Either guitar would be total winner, so good luck in your choice!

Strictly business speaking- the PRS will be a closer trade towards the LP should you want to go that route. At least over here in the US. The Hamer, while a great instrument, doesn't carry the name/logo association and weight that PRS does. That is a big deal when it comes to the ability of the store to sell and make a profit off of your trade in towards another guitar.

^^^ Then again, the Hamer will be closer to the Les Paul so you may not need/want to trade to one. If you want to trade to a Les Paul, and this is an interim step, then I agree with teledaddyo - go for the most resalable guitar, which would be PRS, even over here.
But if you play the Hamer, and love it - go with your heart! ;D

The SC245 was one of the most comfortable and versatile PRS guitars I owned (and I miss it). Great tone and sustain. I think you'll like the neck radius on the PRS better. I hope to grab one again someday.

I love my SC245. One of the best guitars I've ever played.

IMO, the ding against the SC245 is the non-adjustable intonation of that bridge. To me, that's just a non-starter. The Hamer is an excellent guitar. Those 3-pc necks tend to be VERY solid. I personally love PRS necks, but I'd pick the Hamer in this case as far as being a player goes. Alas, the Hamer if a better pick for one to play is almost certain to be a poorer expenditure of funds in terms of cost recovery likelihood. Disclaimer: I own a Hamer. I have played several PRSs I really, really liked (but never bought). JH
