I'm heading to Chicago to play the Elbo Room this Friday. They want bands to bring heads and plug into their speaker cabs. I'm bringing my Z-wreck and have the option of plugging into any of the following....
- Marshal (1982) 4X12 Cab with celestion Vintage 30's [8/16ohms-mono/120watts]
- Marshal (1960A Lead) 4X12 Cab with celestion G12T-75'S [4/16 ohms mono/8 ohms stereo/300watts]
- Fender (1999) 4X12 Cab with eminence Red Coat Wizard's [8ohm-mono]/300watts]
Any suggestions???
The next night in Grand Rapids, they'll let me bring in the whole set-up, but for Friday, I need to play speaker cab roulette.

I've always been partial to a nicely broken in V30 myself. Can't comment on how that would sound with the Z Wreck as I do not have mine yet but can't imagine it sounding bad....

The Eminence Wizard, from what I've heard, is similar to Celestion's G12H30. They aren't exactly the same but close.

Honestly, I'd walk in the door with the head in one hand a cab in the other and push the issue a little.
Bring a small piece of carpet with you just incase it is tight and you ned to sit the cab on it's end. Head on the 4x12.
Z-Wreck combo would have solved this issue.

Ask them if you can bring your own head and cab, that'll solve the issue.

Screw asking. Ask by walking in the front door with it. They might roll their eyes, but you talk to them as it's alreading in the club. Worse case you carry it back to the car, but bring it in before you ask about it.
You won't even need to move the 4x12 off the stage. Just turn it to the side enough to get our Z-wreck cab next to it.

If you want to get booked there again I'd stick with the guidelines. The place books 5 bands per night (ouch:)
**** Elbo Room's website states****
"BUT I WANT TO USE MY OWN GEAR!!!"
Elbo Room understands that there are musicians that have their own tone/comfort level/branding with their gear. There are several reasons why we ask you to use our backline:
- Saves on clutter off stage
- Makes set changes quicker
- Allows bands to load out before end of night
- Makes load in easier/more manageable
- Elbo Room uses industry standard gear to help keep professional sound
- We want you to be able to drink and have a good time until close and not have to worry about loading out the drums/cabs ups a flight of stairs

Ok that changes everything. Scratch everything I said. I didn't understand how simple minded they are on sound. Wow you can chose between three different 4x12's. By the way none of them are the time tested quad of Greenbacks.
Yeah, that is industry standard if you use Guitar Center gear.
The V30 4x12 is my vote, but what do they think everyone plays a head? Eveyone likes the sound of a 4x12? Or a Closed back cab?

This really bugs me and I'm not even dealing with it.
So, what if you use a multi-amp set up? You get two 4x12's?
Sounds to me they are very generic and want bands to be as generic as well.
No offence to the poster of this thread, but it doesn't sound like this place has original music happening at it. I couldn't play any of my three newest songs there. Why? Because I wrote them on bass with one signal to pushed bass bass rig sound and the other to a Swart ST-R with gobs of reverb. If it were a band it would need two bass rigs and two guitar rigs. Three amps would be for my sound alone.
What if your band has two drummers? Or there is multi percussion parts that require a drummer and one of the other members on congas or a jam pad of sorts.
I hate this place and I have never seen it before.
Good luck there.
