I'm thinking about sending my ts9 off to get modded by either Keeley or Analogman and I was wondering who you all might recommend. I hear that they are both great. Any comments or experiences you all could give me would be appreciated. Thanks,Dew

Yeah, just pick one and play! They're both great guys, and to be honest past recomendations from others who have used both, are problematic in that unless someone reviewing it happens to use the EXACT same gear as you, your going to have different results anyway! I think they both have solid reputations of knowing what works and what doesnt. Hey, BTW if your diggin the TS thing ya might look into a MJM Blues Devil. This guys pedals are dead on clones of originals with super matched parts. I just recently A/B'd my Devil with an early # TS808 that is dead mint cond., ..... the devil is VERY VERY close, and can be found for pretty cheap ( $125-150 ) But if youre looking for diode switching etc. go with one of the mods. Good luck!

I've had an Analogman TS-9 for quite a while and I have no complaints. It sounds much richer and fatter than my buddy's stock TS-9 and I've never had a bit of a problem with it. I haven't played a Keeley modded one so I can't compare the two. I'm sure they are killer as well.

I had both and preferred the AnalogMan. More natural and clear sounding to me. The Keeley has more gain, but the AMan stays a bit truer to the classic TS. They are both great pedals, though. (BTW - I had the AnalogMan Silver mod - check his site and you can read up on the specifics).

Over the last few years I've either owned or had the chance to demo most of the Keeley and Analogman mods on both the TS and BD-2. In my opinion Keeley dose a better job on the BD-2 mods and Analogman dose a better job on the TS. I know this wasn't part of your original question but with all the boutique guys making really great clones of the original TS I really don't see a reason to go the mod route anymore. You would probably also be money ahead just selling the TS-9 and buying what ever you want.

I would like to thank you guys for your comments. I sent my old ts9 off to analogman. I talked to them on the phone the other day and I think they are a class act. They told me that they don't try to turn the pedal into something that its not intended to be, they just try to get all the tone that they can out of it. I told them which chip was in it because I never heard of the one that is in there, and they knew which one it was. They called it the suck chip. They said not all of the old ts9's had the good chips in them and they also said it wouldn't hurt the value of the pedal which I was worried about since it is an original old ts9. I'm sure Keeley is great also. I played through one of there BD2's and thought it was killer and I'd like to get one someday but this time I'm going with analogman. I'll have to let ya'all know what I think when I get it back. Thanks again, Dew

Their HQ is actually less than an hour's drive from where I live. I'd like to check it out in person someday.

I've only had experience with Keeley products, and like them alot, but I can say I've only heard great things about Analogman as well, and I'm sure one of his products will pass through my hands. Both seem to have great customer service, and have really done their homework on their mods. If you're handy with a soldering iron, you may want to consider modding your own pedals. There is a wealth of product and info on this subject, and you learn alot about what you like, and how to make it sound that way. And it's a helluva lot cheaper Good luck! Harold
