what was going to be a straight-in Ghia day became a 66 day cuz I wanted that pop. So I switched amps and dialed in a really good one. Such a great lead tone. Even barefoot and not cranked very high at all. Always a flutey fat lead sound. With a heated front, it's been easy for me to get singing highs like David Gilmour's lead tone from The Wall without adding hardly any dirt at all, so my rhythm sound remains cleanish. I can pinch the sharpest La Grange harmonics with so many settings and still have the tidiest arpeggiated cowboy chords with no change to the guitar elex. Attack = Breakup & Volume. To be honest I didn't really know what to expect from an EF86 fronted amp; this is my first. I guess I like how my amp seems to add a lot of guts to my single note lines without necessarily smearing my chords at the same settings -- unless I spank em. Nahmean? Even so, and maybe I am naive but my Ghia and 66 can somehow remind me of each other, both soundwise & feelwise -- and yet I am always definitely in the mood for one or the other if I think about it when I am about to plug in. And today I was definitely in the mood for a Plimsoul-driven EF86 pop, made large by that saggy, swaying, sauntering, lolling, sprawling, 66 swingset. Good day or eve to you, as appropriate. Swing safely!

Sounds like you had a great day. I also have both amps and enjoy whichever one I plug into.

Even the name of the amp: "Route 66." Reminds me of the movie Two Lane Blacktop, about a monster '55 Chevy and its driver and mechanic (who were played by none other than James Taylor and Beach Boys' drummer Dennis Wilson). I'm glad mine's RED. I have been really digging mine with just a Heavy 30 lately. Man, these amps are so fun.

Oh man, memories. I saw paradise by the dash board lights at the drive-in when Two Lane Blacktop was playing. It took two or three weekends to actually see the whole movie. Forty years later and I find myself lusting after a Route 66 and a 55 Chevy.

Forty years later and I find myself lusting after a Route 66 and a 55 Chevy. James Taylor (The Driver): "Make it three yards, [muddy fudger], and we'll have us an automobile race." === The Mechanic: "You'd have yourself a real street-sweeper here if you put a little work into it." GTO: "I go fast enough." The Driver: "You can never go fast enough." === Super-good movie.

The Rt66 has so much tone and sustain. I could never sell mine, even though it has way more power than I need.
