How does a tap tempo delay help you?
Just got a maxon ad-999, don't believe she has it. VERY nice pedal o/w.

To me much, when drummer gives the first 4 beats I simply step on it two times and have tempo in time with the song, even if I turn on the effect in the middle of it or only for a solo...

Kewl.
What did you do without the tap tempo, or rather before you got it? That is, how to get the best use out of a non-tap tempo delay like my AD-999?
My guess is that this is essential for playing loops.

Can you get tap tempo delays to self-osscilate? I played with an H&K Zentera amp that had tap tempo delay built in, it sounded OK for basic delay stuff only, you couldn't play it like an instrument at all... if that's the case with tap-tempo delays, then I'll stick to the knobbed ones...

Another recommendation for the T-Rex Replica. I love it. Really simple and really good sounding.
I have a question about the DD-20. I know it has a tap tempo feature, but can that be used with your foot or is it only that tiny button that would require squatting down to your board to tap in? I love my Replica, but I'm looking for a second unit to get some additional sounds.

I've read of some using a keyboard damper switch. I think the DD-20 is definitely an option you should consider.

craigmccle, For tap tempo on the Boss DD20, you can use either the CTRL pedal input on the back with an external momentary foot-switch such as the Boss FS5U, or the right pedal of the DD20 when held down for a spell can also tap tempo. I love my DD20! ;D

Thanks for the help guys. For awhile I was running my TRex with a DL4 to give myself an array of delay tones and even run them together sometimes. Unfortunately my DL4 just crapped out on me (and is not my first Line 6 modeler to do so), so I was looking at options for replacement. I think I'm going to go with the DD-20. Thanks again.

I was messing around with a Boss DD-20 with my Prescription ES tonight and it doesn't sound too bad. It is quiet and doesn't suck any tone as far as I could tell.

I picked up the DD-20 tonight, and though I haven't gotten a whole lot of play time with it, I already like it WAY better than my DL-4. It's a really cool pedal. No noticeable noise.

I just ordered a Dreamtone Dream Delay. If it is as good as my Dreamtone Magik Boost 2 then I know I'll like it. BTW.....I had a Aqua Puss a few years back when they where very easy to get. A really nice delay but not any better than a lot of delays out there still. Just my opinion of course. It seems that when the production ends the hype begins.

Keepin eye on Diamond's Memory Lane, I listened to site's demos and appreciate that analog delay sound, like very much the way repeats decay. Then I asked myself: Why Diamond Pedals don't build a "only-delay" unit without modulation? Even if that feature's cool I don't really need it, and... I like one-trick-pony pedals, and... it would be cheaper...

I love my Dan Echo. I was looking to replace it and just A/B'ed it against the Maxon AD999 and T C Electronic Vintage Delay and liked the Dan Echo better. Yes it's noisy, but it just flat out sounded better to me. I'm only using short delays and am willing to accept the noise.

I just got a Dr. Scientist Sunny Day Delay and I think it's great. No tap tempo, but the sounds you can get out of this thing are awesome. It even has an on/off switch for chorus (and the LED fades in and out to the speed you have the chorus rate set to). There are two outputs (I assume if you want to run stereo), but you can use either one of them independently and they do different things. Out 1 is a regular delay. Out 2 doesn't let your original note come through when you play it - only the repeats. here's a link: www.drscientist.ca/pedaldetail.php?pedal_code=sdd

T-REX for me as far as the pedal ones go, other than that I use a TC electronics G-Force rack.

Love my Memory lane, had it for over a year now and its working well for me. Nice warm analog sound and very transparent. I agree with Dr T, Diamond should make it without the modulation side. To my ears the modulation is a very subtle effect which i could easily get along without. Though, at time it does help to put a little shimmer on cleans at lower volumes.

Big fan of my AD900 - I have a hard time turning it off... you know how with most pedals you have that feeling at one point or another that something isn't quite right, maybe even just for one jam, then you start digging it again? I've never felt that with this pedal. I've loved it since the moment I first plugged it in... buttah...
I'd be anxious to hear the AD-999 as well.

The two delays I use the most is the Diamond Memorylane and the Boss DD-2. I setup up the Diamond to sound like a tape delay which it excels at for me. The Boss is setup for more ambient sounds or longer delay times but I also use it as my stand alone delay when I don't won't to carry my pedalboard and bring only a few pedals.
After ABing the T-Rex and TC Vintage Delays units I actually prefered the TC. The TC seemed to be more natural in how it interacted with my playing while the T-Rex seemed to get in the way a little. YMMV.

Ibanez AD-9 (original, not reissue) or a Keeley AD-9 since it has true bypass and sounds close enough for Rock and Roll.

Just ordered a T-Rex Replica. We'll see how it interacts in the loop of my Shiva. Had a Line 6 Delay and even with it modded by Keeley it wasn't quite right. I'm gonna look at the Diamond as well, both it and the T-Rex always get rave reviews.

Just gor the T-Rex today. I really like it so far. It's very quiet, has enough delay time for what I want to do, the tap tempo is very convenient and the "brown" switch is great. It can go from an amazing digital delay to a nice dark tape delay, it truely is a brown delay. I may order another one and have 2 on my pedal board.
