Is anybody using this combo? I really want a Carmen Gia and will probably sell my relic strat. Maybe it will come out even.

I've been told I would "cream my shorts" if I tried a Ghia with my Z-Best. That's a good enough endorsement for me. I'm hanging to try this combination.

Yeah, well, can't say I've creamed my shorts in a long time but the Ghia through the Z Best might just be the impetus. I love the Z Best. It is an extraordinary cab.

When I bought my Maz Jr. they had a Maz Sr. hooked up to a Z Best. WOW! I wasn't prepared to spend that kind of money, so I got the Maz 18 Jr first. I think, like you, it's just a matter of time till the next Z will be here.

Im using it and I love it. I run a fd2 at all times and just roll back volume for clean sounds.

I use my head through a ZBest loaded with the original Celestion 12H30 and an Eminence Texas heat. Enormous sound.

I use my Ghia with a 2x12 that has a V30 & G12H. It is the same size as the ZBest but not ported. It sounds killer. My friend just bought a Maz38 & ZBest so I want to compare my cab to a real ZBest but his cab is not here yet.

I run my Ghia head through either a Zbest or an open back Z 2x10....each cab has a different purpose. For playing rock, the Zbest is unbeatable with the CG...it simultaneously gives way more bass and tightens the low end response. There are also more highs in relation to the 2x10.
That being said, the Zbest absoluely SUCKS for jazz gigs and isnt quite my first choice for open roots-y stuff (think bill frisell...) in these contexts, the z open back 2x10 smokes the zbest.
But for chest pounding thump, anything involving palm muting or a powerchord, or any time the CG's volume goes past 11:00, the Zbest is the one to go for.

Ghia head arriving tomorrow. I picked up a small mint Marshall 1966b cabinet with 2X12 Celestion 75 watt speakers for a 150 watts. Sounds good with my Maz jr. hooked up to it. Can't wait to try it tomorrow.

I got my Ghia head today and it's very cool. Sounds great with the Marshall cabinet. Paul, I bet it would sound better with greenbacks, but that's what came with it. I'm not sure if I'm gonna keep the cabinet,(almost mint) change the speakers, or what. I really would like a DRZ cabinet to tell you the truth.
The Ghia head also sounds great with all the speakers in my DRZ combos. More proof that you can't get a bad sound out of a DRZ amp.

You guys don't do much to help a guy keep his G.A.S under control. All I hear is phenominal stuff about the Z best. I thought the Ghia would be too little for the Z' best but from all accounts it seems it brings out the beast in a small, great little recording, small club blues amp giving you an option to rock out with lots more bottom end chunk and even more highs. I absolutely love my Ghia. Extra freight costs to get a loaded 2x12 sent out to Australia have never been warranted in my opinion. I've usually prefered to buy heads and then get a cab locally but it looks like things might change real soon. Is the "Z" Best the best ported cab out there? By the looks of it..............it can't be beaten.
Hey Tas,when you get your Ghia, give us all a review, i just can't wait!!!!

Hey Groover, the Z Best really is quite phenomenal in mho. Since I've had the Ulbrick 1-12 I haven't used it alot as I can play the Route 66 unattenuated with the 1-12 which is cool but it just isn't that "balls to the wall" tone of Z-Best. Ulbricks 2-12's are also awesome but they are expensive and the cost to buy and ship a Zbest is probably comparable right now. The Ulbrick amps/cabs/pedals are absolutely killer. He has just released a 120 watter that is amazing...It's all too much amp for me though...I'm looking at 18 watts! ;D I'm thinking the Ghia would break up in just the right spot to use the Z best in clubs. It's a LOUD cab. I REALLY wanna run it in stereo with my 66 though. That is why I really want it. Then I can run it with my 1-12 for quiet gigs. The 66 1-12, or Ghia 2-12 for clubs, Ghia/ Rt 66 in stereo for MY gigs and the Police gigs. Mmmm...need a Fulltone TTE to put between them for the Police thing and that shop in Byron has them in stock I think. That's definitely further down the purchasing path! ;D
To get a Ghia I'd have to sell my Desert Yellow Jem 777 that my parents bought me when I was a young shredder. I'm very attached to it emotionally but the truth is I just don't need it now that I have the Grosh and every man and his dog is throwing offers at me for it. A guy down here actually has the first electric guitar I ever bought so hopefully I might have enough money to buy it back. It's a swamp ash late 70's Fender Mustang that I bought in Rapid City South Dakota when I was 16, so I think I could swap the emotional loss of the Jem with retaining my first guitar. That's my reasoning and I'm sticking too it...

I just sold my Les Paul. Kind of a little pissed off about it but had to pay some bills and there was no wa I was selling my Dr Z's. I'm more of a strat/tele player anyway. I think I might get a 58' historic when I get some more money anyway or a single cut L.P TV , I just love those P90's. Thats not a priority anyway. Kind of got myself focussed right now on either that KT45 that I've been wanting for ages or a Z28, which to me would fill my Fender amp void. Kind of wish I would have bought Curts one now. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL YOU Z'natics.............c u back here in 2007 ;D

Another great speaker is a Weber California. I first heard a Ghia going through a green Dr. Z 1x12 closed back with a CA Webber. WOW! Was like buttah!

Hey James, how ya doin'? I notice you have a Z 1-12 Celestion Gold on order. I'd love to hear your thoughts on that cab and ghia when you get it as I've been thinking of one for my 66 and the Ghia WHEN I get one. ;D

Hey Tas, Doin' just fine. Thanks ! How's life down under? My fiance keeps telling me to contact that "Taz" guy and ask him how the weather in Austrailia is during christmas. She wants to go there next year.
Yup, I have the gold on order and this is the 2nd time I had one on order. ( On Backorder actually) This time I am gonna be patient and wait it out. I'll give a full report when it arrives. I also have a blue coming this week and will be able to compare the Giah with a blue and a gold to see if part of the giah/blue combination magic is due to the 15 watt rating.
p.s..........sell your mini z and get a giah!

She wants to go there next year. p.s..........sell your mini z and get a giah! During Christmas the weather everywhere in Aus is warm or hot. Here in Hobart Xmas and early new year is a fantastic time. Lots of Festivals, (Taste of Tasmania, food festival) or you can camp out at the Falls Festival and see great bands with 15 000 people. The Sydney to Hobart yacht race finishes just before new year so there is lots happening down town and we get a lot of tourists. Lots of beach time and bushwalks. As I am typing this it is 95F here...35C which is pretty warm for here. Come on down!

My Ghia window is running thin, the place we rent has just been sold so we have to look for another rental for 6 months and we begin building our house NOW. So every spare dime will be thrown into that. I will find it very hard to justify a new amp under these circumstances. Although my philosophy is always replace gear with gear, so if I sell my other guitar... It's a long shot.

Is it really 35 degrees celsius down in Hobart........WOW, thats incredible. It's as hot down as it is here right now. Actually summer hasn't been all that hot except for the occasional day here and there. Lots of rain here so no droght going on like most of the capitals on the east coast. It's a shame about the Ghia, Tas. All I can say is sell one of those geetars you aren't using anymore. The Ghia is a killer amp. I just got a Eminence Red,White and Blues arrive today and I stuck it in a closed back cab and gave it a whirl with the Ghia. It had some serious tight bottom end like it said it supposed to ,quite a lot of midrange(probably accentuated by the closed back cab) and a little loss in the highs (the closed back again). I dimed the Ghia all the way past 3,set the tne to about 10-11 and blazed away with my strat. It broke up a little but the speaker was way too much for the little beast that I usually run into a Eminence Red Fang in an open 1 x12 cab. I swapped cabs (1x12 Red Fang, open-back) and immediately there was more of a jangly clean then crunch when I dimed the guitars volume that is associated with a Celestion blue. Closed back cabs with small amps aren't really my thing but it was the only cab I had free to put the Red,White and Blues into. I'm ging to buy some solid pine kits and make up a couple of decent sized open backs when i get around to it but for now the ones I have will have to do. I'm really looking forward to trying out the Red,White and Blues with my next purchase, either a Z28 or a KT45 to really see what the sweet tones speaker is capable of.
If anyone else has tried the Ghia/Eminence Red,White and Blues combination I'd love to hear your thoughts.
