I just ordered a Carvin powered mixer (RX1200L) and I was curious if anyone on the Z Forum has experience with Carvin 3-way, 15" neo mains. They weigh just over half what my Yamaha mains weigh. That definitely gets my attention. Here's a link: www.carvinguitars.com/products/single.php?product=LM153Brian

Brian,
I was looking at those and the powered 2-ways. Carvin rep told when compairing the powered 15 to the TRx210N w/400w per speaker that volume wise there is not much difference. So, if your using it mainly for vocals the powered15's were the way to go. But sense your looking for sound reinforcement for drums the TRx is the way to go. For full range sound reinforncement nothing touches our TRx line.
The TRx210N I bought sound amazing!!!!!!! I got the smaller 3x 400w power mixer.
The TRx115N is only 10 pounds more, but $100 more.
Also look at the shape of the enclosure. The Trx's are trap. shaped. I'm planning on strapping them together for travel. The over all size difference between 2 of the powered verse 2x of Trx when put together is a pretty good difference. Not sure if that matters to you or not but worth mentioning.

Good info on the TRx speakers, Dave. I'll check them out, too. I'm really interested in the LM series due to the incredibly low weight, but even the TRx115N would save me 15 pounds compared to my Yamaha's. If the TRx's sound that much better, I might give them a shot. Heck, I wonder how neo speakers would sound in my Yamaha's, and if they're that much lighter than what's already in there?

Do the Yamaha mains sound good minus the weight? If so, pull a speaker and weigh it. Speakers are alot cheaper kinda. Guess it depends if you can get $200 for each Yamaha.
Make sure you check out that spec sheet on them. I know the 2x10's I bought have a drawing.

Yep, the Yamaha gear sounds great. I had the whole set - monitors, mains, and subs. (John just took the subs.) If I end up staying with them, that'll work. I'm just thinking about looking at something that will be a bit easier to move around. As my wife says, "whatever will keep you playing a bit longer is good". I can't believe she said that!!

They didn't have these 15" 3 ways when I bought my Carvin 12" 2 ways so I can only speak from that point of view. The 12" 2 ways sound very good and are very light. The only downside is the plastic cab is more resonant than my EV SX300s making them a little muddier but not bad.
