I'm new here, this is actually my second post. I've had a route 66 for a few years and play mostly blues. Ididn't realize there was a board devoted to Z stuff. On to the meat:
Anyone used a LPB-1 this with their route 66? I saw them online for 39$ and was intrigued so I picked one up. I like to think I know good tone, but I grew up in the 80s listening to RATT and Poison and hair bands so sometimes I like strange things, but I think I really dig this pedal. It seems to push the tubes over the edge a bit with my tele and fatten up the tone a little. So far, I'm digging it, but as I indicated I sometimes like strange stuff so I was wondering if anyone else had tried this combo out and could give me a read on it. Thanks.

1st off...Welcome! And your not alone growing up on hair bands, same thing here. EVH was God. I've never tried the LPB-1 but for the price you can't go wrong. Another good one is the Bad Bob made by Robbie Wallace. Here's some Karma to get you started...

You're not alone mward... I love me some 80's hair metal too.
Sounds like a cool pedal for $40 - I may have to pick one up.

I think I paid more than that for one when they came out in the 70s! I had a master volume Dual Showman and the LPB1 was perfect for pushing the preamp of that amp.

Let me clarify in case I wasn't clear - this pedal with a rt 66 doesn't sound like 80s hair bands, I was just using my youth surrounded by them as an excuse in case one of you guys tries it and the tone sucks. I think this pedal sounds a little texas bluesy and pushes the preamp over the edge a bit.

I just grabbed one on eBay. I played an original one for awhile back in the waaaaay early '80s with a Thomas Crybaby and an Ibanez Overdrive (the orange one) into a Silvertone head with a Fender Bassman bottom (Utahs). The guitar was a '67 SG Special and P90s NEVER sounded so good. Dag!

My first amp was a Fender Champ that I always ran full out. That wasn't loud enough to keep up with my brother the drummer, so I got a Linear Power Booster 2. I've spent almost 30 years trying to recapture that glorious tone...

Brian - Try a epiphone valve junior head (avoid the combo because of hum issues) and a LPB1 into a single 12" greenback. I bought one of those heads this weekend because the route 66 is way too loud in the house to run it wide open but this little 5w class a head is perfect. If I could just find one of those mini z amps...

After a few gigs with the Nano I'm unimpressed. It seems to actually take some of the sparkle out of my Ghia and dull the sound. I used it both in front of the overdrives and after as a volume boost and just didn't like it. There's a reason, I guess, that most boosts are in the $100.00-$150.00 range, and this one is $40.00. It may do the job for some people, but it just deadened my tone.
Sheesh, I'm teeing off on a lot of pedals lately. Maybe I need to up my meds. I even thought about dishing a little on the AC Booster until I read a post about it not sounding very good into a clean amp. Which was how I was using it...

That was my comment about the AC. The guy was wanting a Dumbley tone and the AC doesn't have enough gain or compression to do that, IMO.

I had two ACs for awhile and kinda liked them on and off... But I was driving a clean Mesa, Budda, or R-55 channel and it had a shrill buzziness that I could never quite dial out, and the gain always seemed crashy sounding rather than smooth. Does that even make sense..? But if I'd been pushing the Maz with some master the volume at 2:00 or so I could see how it might really sing.
A major problem is that almost NONE of the rooms I ever play let me get my Ghia above 9:00, and with the cabs I have I get no drive at that volume. And I require SOME clean headroom for clean leads, so less efficient, lower wattage speakers may not be exactly what I need either. I think the Clarks are finally supplying a good answer for me.
