Hey guys, maybe this will be of help to someone else with similar problems.
After 6 months of messing with the tubes in my Ghia, I'm finally happy. And all it took was 2 5751's!
Mine is a circa-1990 hammond chassis head. When I got it, the thing was a gain bandit...sovtek power tubes, 2 EH 12ax7'S. Fortunately it still had the NOS GE rec. tube. I messed around a bit and finally stuck in the tubes that current Ghias come with. After some more fiddling, I ended up with a 12ax7M in v1 and a 5751 in v2. The amp was good, but still had very harsh upper mids and presence to my ear....giving it an annoying 'honk'.
Anyways, I finally got up the guts to try a second 5751 in v1 as well....perfect! Hollowed out the upper mids for a more 'glassy' sound (though still tons more body than my prosonic head through the same cab) and it evened out the taper of the volume knob to boot.
Sorry for the rant. I'm just finally 100% happy!

Until I get some new 5751s I have two 12AY7s in mine. Like you I think it's much smoother that way, degained I mean.

I had an AY7 in mine for awhile in v1, but found it was a little too thin for my tastes....it seems like the 5751 has more body, to my ear.

I think a 5751 is a great tube. Last night I pulled the 5751 out of my Ghia and stuck it in V3 PI of my Maz Sr. Sounded awesome. I ordered two matched and ballanced 5751's from the Tube Depot. Can't wait till they get here.
