Hi - I just posted this in the expert page too but I thought some other Ghia people might have something to say about this: My Carmen Ghia 2X10 Combo just started making a really loud horrible grating static noise any time I either play into it or even tap the top side of the amp itself. When I play a few strings lightly I might hear the guitat sound like normal, but then this monotone noise will erupt out of nowhere and sound really really bad. The noise also appears to last for half a second or more after I stop playing or tapping the amp. Does anyone know what is wrong with it? Thanks

I had a static-y problem. It turned out to be something called the conjunctive filter. It is attached to one of the power tubes. A resistor and capacitor were not making good contact. I emailed the Doc and he guided me through solutionville.

Oh yea I forgot about that one. I bought mine used and when it arrived it was doing that. I opened it up and it was obvious. Altogether it took about 5 minutes to fix. I think shipping vibration did it.

Hmmm. Mine has been making some strange sounds lately as well. I'm not sure it's exactly what you guys described, but it's similar. When playing clean it sounds fine, but when I crank it up a bit it sounds... harsh. That's the best I can do to describe it.

Defintiely look at conjunctive filter. Also check to see if you have been in really humid conditions- may not affect z amps but my Fender vibro hated it- used to take a hair dryer to it inside- but then I guess that was a fiber board and cloth covered wiring! You can give the tubes a bit of a wriggle and see if that changes things Filter most likely but tube wriggle or substitution is is easy to eliminate Brett
