We all know how nicely a Celestion Blue matches with the Ghia. I have been considering getting a goldie for my Rt 66 and was wondering how the Gold would sound with the Ghia as well (for no reason in particular ;D) Would the fact that it is 50 watts make a significant difference over the Celestion Blue? Thanks

Hey Jaye - I just saw the January 2007 issue of Guitar Player Magazine, and they had a review on the Celestion Gold. Of course ..... they liked it. Might make an interesting read for you.

Thanks Don,I've read one of them...Tonequest I think, and they gushed about it. I have no doubt it's a great speaker. Just wondered how it would go being driven by 18 watts and how much of the Ghia/ Blue marriage is based on the 18w/15w partnership. I'll check out the GP review.

I'd love to hear some feedback on what folks think about it. What does it compare too does anyone know?

GP stated that the Gold would be great for higher powered amps but the blue still rules for lower wattage amps.

I'm curious about how the weber alnico 50 watt blue rates against the gold. Any weber comparisons out there?

If the blue is within the wattage rating of the amp I still think the blue is the better sounding speaker of the two.

Thanks Myles. I guess my next question would be whether a Blue can handle a Rt 66 played at lower volumes. I'd like to get an alnico I could use with both, although I realize that it's probably not a good idea. (I am resigned to the fact I'm going to get a Ghia!)

JMO, but the sensitivity of a Blue means that it's pretty loud before it's even coming close to 15w of power to it.
You'd have to ru na 30w amp almost wide open to endanger a speaker that's rated 15W, and it would be VERY loud.
Since I wanted my 1x12 for lower volume gigs, I swapped a Blue into it (in place of an EVM) and it's working wonderfully with my 30w Stang Ray.
If it blows, it blows. Not likely, given the usage profile of this cab (read: low volume). If I ever get lucky enough to need (or be able to use) anything near WOT with my Stang, then I have the 2x12 for that.
I'd say anything up to 2:00 or so on the Stang's volume would be safe with a 15W blue.
Of course, that's just my theory:)
