Well ...... I've had the chance to use this amp quite a bit lately in a myriad of real playing situations, now that I'm playing with Skin n Bone. Can honestly say that I love this amp! Did one gig with ZW, was awesome. Did a second gig and took the Galaxie: very good, but now I wanna gig the Wreck again. Took the 1-12 cab for these last two gigs. Gonna take the blue and gold for this coming Friday's gig. Also recorded those live videos I posted with the Wreck. We've had 3or 4 rehearsals, all've been with the Wreck - a pure pleasure. And we've been recording some this past week and I ran the Tele straight into the Wreck for a Bakersfield style fast country tune: really, really superb sound. Really nice in the mix wif a lot o' twang, extremely satisfying.
This wreck has become my favorite amp, ..... of all time I'm beginning to think. It's kinda like I've gotten over the new amp infatuation phase and begun to use it as the tool that it is, and loving it all the more 'cause it does whatever I ask of it with ease. I can't see why I'd wanna play through anything else.
Have plugged into a few vintage amps of late to compare, now that I've really gotten to know the Wreck. Notably the '57 Fender Pro and the old JMI Vox AC30 (now with a brake lite attached): both were very nice, but did not have the versatility of the Wreck, nor the level of compression that this amp naturally has (well, OK, the Vox does!). And the Pro does not have the headroom needed for gigging. The Vox competes nicely with the Wreck until you consider how heavy it is and that after an hour of playing you can cook an egg on it - mothers get hot. But the Wreck is pretty Vox-like to my ear and with the way I set it. Also played through the '58 Deluxe again - nice enough, but not even close to the Z Wreck. I play through these vintage amps for a short while and then plug into the Wreck, and there's just no going back! It's so obvious which one I prefer.
This Wreck has such breadth of tone as to have nearly no competition, once you've got a Z Brake attached. Need a clean sound? Turn the volume down to 12:30 - 1:00. Need smooth distortion? Crank the volume to 3:00. Need balls to the walls? Dime the volume. Doesn't get that much louder but gives you all the control you want, so I hardly have to change settings on the brake. Only amp that's come close to this ZW is the Remedy - the Rem's still a great amp.
In all seriousness: when the economy rebounds, I am gonna be selling some gear and cashing in on that vintage retirement fund that's starting to gather dust.

haven't raved like that in quite a few weeks, eh?
