Greetings,
How about it? Do you like Fuzz Pedals better before or after wah pedals? I recently got a Fulltone 70s pedal and am using it with a Teese Picture Wah. I have been trying it with the Fuzz before the wah and will be trying it with Fuzz after Wah tonight. So which way do you prefer running these types of effects?

That's funny! After the wa sounds like cartoons to me! On Jack Bruce's first solo album after Cream, Chris Spedding used a wa after the fuzz on one long tune with a jam in it. That part always bugged me. If anybody is a fan of Jack Bruce they should own this album. He still has the EB3 thru a Marshall bass tone and the songwriting and singing is OUTSTANDING. It's called Songs for a Tailor, named after a seamstress that used to make cool clothes back then who died.

Had a GREAT acoustic guitar hook that ran through the song, and it sounded like Felix Pappalardi sang harmony with him on it. I always figured that with wah, if you ran straight into a distorted amp, you'd be running wah BEFORE distortion anyway. If a fuzz is a distortion... well, there you are. Still, the fuzz BEFORE the wah can create interesting tones and textures.

If you're looking for traditional tones, it's wah into fuzz. Reverse them for a freakazoidsynth effect. Or word to that effect.

Sorry for off thread. tjstrat: It probably is To Isengard. I have always listened to that album from beginning to end. It's a classic!

Sorry for off thread. tjstrat: It probably is To Isengard. I have always listened to that album from beginning to end. It's a classic! It was one of the first albums I ever bought, and thinking of Cream I thought it would be a blistering rocker. Whoopsie! But "Rope Ladder to the Moon" is a very cool song (I actually used to play it in coffeehouses and bars acoustically back in the mid 70s, right alongside "Out on the Weekend" and "Hey That's No Way to Say Goodbye"), "Clearout" was pretty cool, and "To Isengard"'s acoustic lick was something I used to just fiddle with all the time. And the off time rave up with Spedding's "Dazed and Confused" style wah glissando stuff just killed. Probably opened my mind and ears to the fact that cool washes of noise over a great riff are just as powerful as a hot pentatonic solo...

trane, Mike Fuller says not to try the '70 with a wah, too unruly. Does the Teese come with a output buffer? If it does it should help. Let us know what you think after you try it with the fuzz after the wah. DougG

DougG,
Yeah. I had read that warning too. Still I am bound and determined to try it. I will let you all know what I sounds like. I do not mind unruly for certain songs. I should be able to get some good time in tonight. (As a side note it was not unruly at all with Fuzz before Wah).
Thanks to everyone for giving their thoughts and experiences on this subject.

I say do what works/sounds best for you. ;D
I run my boosts and fuzz before my wah like so: Zvex Super Duper -> Keeley Fuzz Head -> Keeley Java Boost -> Budda Wah
I find that if I do it the other way, the top range of the wah pedal is way too squeally and harsh. the way I have it keeps the wah more mellow and vocal sounding when the dirt boxes are engaged, in my opinion.
FWIW, I'm running these into amps that are pretty overdriven already (SRZ-65 or Route 66).

If you put your 70 after a wah you will prob'ly get a squealing noise(unless you have something like tthe foxrox buffer)
I currently have my fuzz after my wah. I've had interesting results with both. I rarely ever use my fuzz and wah together though

Laroosco!! Hope that Detroit is treating you well after your time back here in ABQ. I actually tried the set up with the wah first last night. Not too bad. I think I like it better this way, at this point. I did have some odd oscillations here and there but nothing truly out of control or unbearable.
Thanks to everyone for all your inputs.

I always put Wah early in the chain-- usually first.

oops. I meant to say that I currently have my Fuzz before my Wah. I have a Fox retrofit on the way. We'll see how that works.
Trane, Detroit is treating me alright this time around. I had fun in ABQ and hope to get back sometime soon. There is a possibility that my band might be doing our recording in Sante Fe.

For me it's always been wah before fuzz. Some germanium fuzzes (like fuzzface clones) need a buffered way or there's little wah effect. See: fuzzcentral.tripod.com/axiswah.html for a great and easy buffer- it is great with my fuzzface clone. Brett

Wah before fuzz. I don't run both together though.
