I have been looking around at some Tremolo pedals to use with my Mazerati. I am on the waiting list for a Toneczar Powerglide, but just listened to a Magnatone amp with "true" vibrato. Man, it's so sweet, both a tremolo and a pitch modulator. The effect in the amp has two tubes to get that great warmth. I have listened to the sound samples on the Powerglide a bunch, I can hear a bit of a modulation behind the Trem.
My question is, How can I get that Magnatone "Vibrato" out of my Mazerati? Will the Powerglide get me there without tubes?

The third kind of tremolo is like on the Fender brown amps. It took three tubes to do it, as I recall. I like it better than the Magnatone. The brown Fenders sound like there's a little phase shifter in it also. I don't know if anyone has tried to duplicate that sound.

Thanks Billy, the Powerglide Tremolo has two types of trems, Brownface or Blackface. you should check out the website www.toneczareffects.com the downloads are where the sound samples are. The one "brown vs. black" really demonstrates that phase shifting element. I have no real experience with Fender amps, I jumped right to the Z's, but it's nice to hear that you like the brownface trem better than the Magnatone. I'm looking forward to the Powerglide, oh yeah, I'm getting one that's stereo or mono. Thanks Billy +1

According to the toneczare site it's a photocell trem. The BF trem is a optocillator (roach) trem. Photo cells are found in the Univibe and give a more phasey tone. Blackface=on/off on/off (sharp sine wave form) opto-oscillator Brownface/Magnatone=tube based trem which is actually vibrato (pitch modulation) Also check out the King Trem www.auraluxamps.com/king.htmlAlso check this out. www.vibroworld.com/magnatone/vibrato.html

Thanks lefty, I had been to that vibroworld site, and from the sound samples I guess I prefer the Powerglide Trem from toneczar.

I've always tried to find a use for a tremolo or vibrato pedal but have never been able to use one for more than 2 or 3 tunes a nite, and that was pushing it. For the odd blues band or oldies band gig the crummy BOSS works fine for me.

Just got a tremolo (TC Juarnig) a couple of weeks ago but from experimenting with it in conjunction with other effects, I especially like it with just a bit of vibrato. It could be used in this way as a substitute for another ambient effect like chorus. On the Juarnig I can turn down the depth of the tremolo effect to blend with the vibrato. The two together are really sweet and can be used with tunes where you would probably not think of using a tremolo.

I'm actually thinking that I will replace my Clone Chorus when I get the Powerglide. I will have to hear them both to know. I plan on using the tremolo one of two ways. Slight intensity on one side with a faster choppy setting one the second channel. I am looking forward to the stereo output as well.

The closest thing ive found to the magnatone is unfortunately a bit impractical and hard to come by, but is my 76' Boss CE-1's vibrato mode. REAL close, But a huge tank of a pedal and not tru by-pass.

These amps have both: tremelo (amplitude modulation) and vibrato (pitch modulation - a la Magnatone)...

The Toneczar Powerglide has a brownface and a blackface mode. The brownface mode has both tremolo and pitch modulation as well. Magnatone was just the first company to make a circut with both, so I have read. I am hoping that my Mazerati and the Powerglide will be superior to the Magnatone vibrato.
