Just wondering if anyone can recommend something close to the Zendrive as far as sound goes that i could put on my board that is readily available.I have been waiting since November for a Zendrive and have been told for the past 3 months that im real close and about a week or two away from receiving it so im really kind of given up on getting it.I am really playing mostly country and blue licks on my RXES as of late.Any help on an alternate pedal would be great.Has anyone tried a Mucho Boost from Durham Electronics? I checked there site and they have a few clips of Redd playing through one and it sounds great. Thanks in advance.......................... Mike

This may be the same situation as far as a wait is concrened, but they do come up on ebay commonly and a lot more cheaply: Clark Gainster (built by Dave Barber). Very nice, transparent, not much compression with kind of a chewy attack. I went for a used Timmy recently and 86'd the Zen Drive, but even the Timmy is getting a run from the Gainster.
The AC Boost is nice, but there was an odd sort of buzziness to it that I could never quite dial out. Then again, I didn't bond with my own Zen Drive while I had it, so consider the source...

The Keeley BD-2 is a really good dirt box IMO. That and an RC booster covers it for me.

I would just wait it out for the Zen. Alf will get it out as quick as he can and to me- I have never heard anything that comes close. ....Other than a Overdrive Special running through a Z-best loaded with Fanes.

and here's yet another vote for the Xotic AC booster and even better when stacked with the RC clean boost. The Fulltone OCD is also nice to have on the board.

He's an awesome player, isn't he. I think he, Josh Smith and BW are my favourite players these days. There is a video on that site where Alan demos Xotic pedals at a NAMM-type thing in Japan. He is surrounded by Zs. Pretty cool video too; jamming with a bass player.

Guitar Center in Overland park, Kansas still had a used AC for $139 last weekend, if anyone wants to know. I'm not into it myself.
