okay, last night at rehersal I decided I wanted to brighten things up a bit. I unplugged my airbrake and ran my Z convertable 1 x12 directly from the amp. Sounded great!!!!! Waaaaaaaaaay to loud for the studio room though lol I plugged my brake back in and put it over on 2 but started to hear some loss on the highs, grrr. I rolled my tone control all the way open and that helped but then I did something a bit different, I rolled my volume back to about 9 from my normal 11 to noon setting. I lost some volume, a bit of gain but still maintained a very exceptable OD level and picked up a bit of brightness. I liked it. Of course, my extension cab is still in the closed but it sounded good and the volume was managable Todd

There ya go. I knew Todd would lead the Monza gang out of the wilderness of "seems pretty quiet here."
Did you play around with the drive control when you had volume around 9? I recall that there was some interesting stuff going on as I messed around with drive and tone.

Hey Mike, couldn't resist posting after the challenge about it being quiet around here!! lol Yes I did play with the drive knob. Initially I had it dimed and that was pretty cool but as I rolled it back I liked the clarity, I ended up diming the tone control and liked that but the drive knob ended up about 10 oclock. I'll play more it this week . . . . Todd

I'm just amazed at how many different tones one can evoke from all Doc's amps, even those with "simple" tone controls. Monza is no exception.

a buddy of mine was playing through a Z28 and he made the same comment about the amount of sounds with such simple controls. He counted that a huge plus because you spend more time playing than dialing and its not hard to get great sounds. On the sad side . . . my band rehersal got cancelled this week and next . . . I'm bummed! Todd

A friend of mine just bought a Monza head with the 1x10 matching cab w/Redfang. I went over to his studio today to play it. I was really surprised how loud it is and also how much you have to crank it to get the full onslaught. I tried it with a Rory Gallagher strat, a PRS with humbuckers and a mid 70's strat. We put a Airbrake on it to keep the volume down. I liked it but I'll have to go back after he breaks that speaker in a little.
Mike does the TSM on the Maz Jr get close to the same tone?

I'll have to do a side-by-side: actually will run the Monza (now in head form at my place) into the MAZ 2x10 with a Headbone for switching so I can take the speakers out of the mix. My gut is that the Monza will give up a more saturated sound.
