You may have read my other thread: "Dissapointment with Line 6 Rotomachine".
So I purchased (Ebay) a Boss RT20...another leslie simulator.
I cranked them up both side by side. Keep in mind both units, which are not true bypass, are run through a true bypass switcher. So any complaints people may have about loss of tone when switched off....or hearing the leslie sound bleed through when switched off....do not apply because of the true bypass switcher. I ran these through my Maz Jr.
For both units, I did not /do not/will not use the overdrive feature. From some Harmony Central reviews (taken with a grain of salt) the Boss overdrive is particularly bad.
Both units have nice control over features. Such as mix between drum and horn, slow speed, fast speed, ramp up/down speed. The Boss has a few extra features such as mix level where the Line 6 does not.
But by far the best unit for my purposes is the Boss. The reason is the Boss does not color the tone. The line 6 REALLY changes the original tone. Their reason is that real leslie sound is more than just rotating speakers, it's also tone. I can understand that kind of thinking. But I don't want that. I want my Maz and Route 66 tone to come through. And the Boss allowed that.
I really like everything about the Line 6....except the massive tone change. That's a deal breaker. The boss...with only 2 minutes of playing, is MUCH more to my liking.

Hey Gtrman, I was looking for a leslie tone and tried the line 6 first. Well actually I tried a univibe first, that didn't satisfy the rotating speaker sound for me, it does work well for Robin Trower, Jimi and Chris Duarte. The line 6 lasted about 30 mins in a test and went back. I still have the RT20 on my board and like it's different flavors. For me, it's not the cat's meow. That said it does have cool chorus tones, great phase shifter tones and ok univube tones. The leslie tones are OK (IMO). I have a blast running an external pedal for speed control. The dist has not appealed to me so far, I keep trying but it's not a tone for my likings.
