I'm not much on delay, I like a little slap back for when the tune calls for it. But I do on occasion like to noodle with a longer delay/modulation/tape. I've seriously reconsidered the LD4 AGAIN! The only reason I got rid of it the first time was "size". If it's good enough for the "Pro's" I guess it's good enough for me...right?

I was setting up a few years ago on a gig where I was a sub. I was using my little Evans amp and a few pedals. I was trying the echo pedal (Mr. Echo by ?). The drummer snapped his head around and said "Ooh, stereo!". It wasn't but it did sound like it for some reason. I only use that sound in variety and blues bands, which I haven't done for the past few years so the pedal sits.

"Mr. Echo" comes to us courtesy of SIB. I had one for a little while (like, weeks), then one switch crapped out on me, then a pot, then...off to the consignment bin...sounded good for the 15 minutes or so that it was on before it fell apart...
I'm still keen on my Smart People Factory I-5 Delay for my "non-delay delay" stuff. It's my fake reverb, mostly; I think its "non-delay" (not to be confused with Tom Delay) qualities are courtesy of the "Mix" and "Warm" knobs, which can back off the effect considerably, and smooth out some of the "digital edge"...

Lefty, you might consider the Boss DD-20 in addition to the DL-4.
There's a bit of a toss up between the DL-4 and the DD-20...both are cool.
DL-4 lops off the sizzly high end of the signal when engaged; and, the DD-20 add a touch of digital (bit brighter/flatter) to the signal (like the DD3/DD6). Both are pretty cool toys. I like the DL-4 for the expression pedal (lots of creative options open up) and the DD-20 because it doesn't sound muffled...and it has some unique features to play with. Both are easy to setup...but you can see the parameters of each setting on the DD-20 via display vs. the set-an-forget knobs on the DL-4.
I'm presently in favor of the DD-20 for a multi-delay in a stomp form.

I own a T-Rex Replica, think it's cool but the price (hoping it'll never break up!!)... Last in the chain before amp, very clean and trasparent with clean sounds, a little compressed with od/dist (but what delay don't?) anyway repetitions are very close to the original. I don't use it for experimental music, I just need some help in solos and rythm parts, but since I've got it I've learned how to manage delay. Featuring tap tempo, very useful: always delay in time with the groove, no need of presets or big boxes. That's a very imprtant feature.

I've had a DL4 for years, but I think I'm gonna pickup one of the DD-20's just for the dotted 1/8-1/4 note repeats you can set by tapping 1/4 notes. Alot of the music we play at my church utilizes this sound (think U2), but it's very difficult to tap in accurately on up tempo songs with the DL4. And since we use a click track, I can program it and forget it. I"M SOLD ;D

Dl-4 is great. I also have a T rex, but for more versatility the DL4 is awsome.

For those that have used or are using the dd-20, can you operate the tap tempo button on the fly with your foot? From pictures it sort of appears that the buttons/knobs are too close together. Thanks.

Just got one this week and used it for the first time this morning at church. Man, what an awesome pedal! It's got way more options than I'll ever use. And it sounded even better than I thought it would. I recommend it to anyone looking for a multi-delay unit. Hooked up an unlatched footswitch for tap-tempo and it worked like a charm. Not quite sure how I ever did without a tap-tempo. If anyone's interested, here's a link to a dd-20 forum on TGP: acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=887944&highlight=dd20Some good info. and settings on there.
