U 31056 Z Wreck Finally all UNPACKED . I assume this means I have number 56 . Shows it was made 12/10 . While the cab looks like everyone elses - Some what of a combination of grain patterns. Sort of shadows in areas. The head has quite a unigue pattern to others posted. The Grain looks very uniform and all vertical zebra type stripes. I will do my best with daylight to take a decent picture. I tried tonight and you have to have proper lighting.
Problem is I got the release to swing my arm and use my wrist. So I may decide to spend my time tweaking and playing. I have managed to either buy or borrow several different guitars to try. Rickenbacker 350v63 w/toasters-Rickenbacker 620 w/hi-gains/ Lentz HSl - a Gibson 356 with 57 Hums- and 2 Gretsch Duo Jets .One has Dyna-Sonic single coils the other TV Jones Powertrons- Last I have a Fender LaCabronita with a single Powertron.
As you can see my weekend is busy. To bad I don't own any recording equipment. Actually with my playing skill that's a good thing maybe.
Anyway someone tell me do I have # 56 if so I'll record it ..
Thanks -
By the way this was the easiest Z to un-pack that I've had. They did a little different than what normally is done. Slipped right out of there.

Congrats on getting the Wreck unpacked and ready for action. Go to it!
Yes, it is #56. U indicates 2010 manufacture, 31 is the model number in the Dr Z amp line up* and 56 is the number of your very own Z Wreck.
* I believe there's a ZA-31 designation on the rear panel. My Monza has ZA-30 on it and its serial number is U30xxx.

Steve : I wish I had the recording equipment to let you hear it. I have spent all my $$$ on amps and guitars. But than you know how it sounds. That 620 is a pretty thing isn't it. I like it but I wouldn't want it for my only guitar. Don't get me wrong it's full of different sounds. It's just a very awkward guitar to use the whole fretboard on. Unless your standing. Not sure I'm going to keep it. I will for awhile . Just because it's pretty cool looking.
So far all I have played the Wreck with is a Rickenbacker 350V63 w/toasters and a Gretsch Duojet w/Dynasonic's. Very easy to get 64 Beatles tones at quite modest volumes. Understand I have very limited time on this amp, but the first thing I noticed. Based on the lower volumes I've used so far. This amp sounds like your playing unplugged. Maybe it's my imagination. I don't ever remember using another amp that so easily projects the actual guitar your using. I don't know if I'm explaining it correctly.
I haven't cranked this up much at this point. So far what I am hearing is an amp that very easily articulates the tones in the body of the instruments. Naturally fiddling with the controls changes the depth of things. Yet the acoustics of the guitar itself really shine thru.
When I played these same 2 guitars using the Maz Jr. I had to fool around some to find each guitars sweet zone. Maybe I'll have a different experience with other guitars
I set the tone knobs on the amp to 12:00 . Volume around 10ish. Set my guitar volumes wide open same with the tone. Than backed off the tone on the guitar a little at a time and there were the sounds I needed. The only song I made a drastic adjustment with is the opening to I want to hold your hand. The treble needs to be muffled to get that opening thud.
I'm sure there are more tones in this thing than I'll ever find. So far I am really impressed how such a small adjustment changes things.
I agree with the touch sensitive comments. This amp is not forgiving to it's user. Maybe because it's so forgiving to the guitar. It's most definitely an amp that brings out your faults . Than again that's a good thing. It's somewhat like playing Rickenbackers. They are not user friendly instruments. However, If you stick with them they make you a better player. Especially when you play a board with taller frets. That doesn't have a 1/2 an inch of varnish on the neck. They are like coffee and beer. Definitely takes getting used to.
I'm going to try the Ric 620 today sometime. Along with a Duo Jet that has TV Jones Powertrons. I am curious to see how much different these powertrons sound in a Gretsch. Compared to the single Coil Dyna's/
This is really more amp than I need. Yet one could play many different tunes and still keep your eardrums safe. Having previously owned a Ray I didn't find the volume as over whelming as I expected. Based on forum posts I've read I thought this amp would be really loud. Don't get me wrong it's loud. But no more so than the Ray was. Maybe less. If it was any louder at all it would only be because I'd only ever experienced 2 Blues with the Ray. The golds definitely give up the bass more defiantly.
I plan on trying it with some attenuation and some Humbucker and P-90 equipped guitars.
It's going to be awhile before I get to other speakers. I'm curious what Doc's 2x10 's will sound like .
Speaking prematurely. First impressions this could be my only amp. It probably will be if the other guitars find a home as quickly as the first two did. I probably shouldn't make such a bold statement seeing how I haven't had the volume past 11:00. Not to mention I only used vintage spec pickups so far. I do know when it gets here my Crook will like it.
The Lentz HSL will definitely need attenuation to come alive. Most likely the Gibson with Buckers will also. Can't wait to find out.

There's is, to my ears, a tonal crossover around noon to 1 on the volume knob. You may want to attenuate, but definitely give that a whirl too. I haven't gotten any sound that I've not liked and some are just heaven

Posted here and the Picture section Wow, that is very nice. Love that Ricky there - want to hear it! Steve, I will sell it to you- after-all I only bought it to take the picture..JK It's a cool little guitar. I've had several Rics and with one exception alway get rid of them. They are at best difficult to play. This one seems to be different. Not only is it a nicer Fireglo than alot of them. The frets are somewhat taller. I'm told by the Rickenbacker Guru . On occasion a fretboard leaves the area to be fitted without getting quite as many coats of the varnish they use. Since the varnish flows to the frets. It makes them feel shorter than they really are. In other words I lucked out. Someone was lazy and didn't put the last coat or two on. I've learn several Ric owners get a fret job on New Guitars because of this problem. If I decide to keep this guitar I may put a slightly taller vintage fret on it. Problem with advise in the Ric forums: Much of the advice you get is from the all knowing members. Which appears to hold creditability based on their number of posts. If you don't want to be booted. You don't question the Leaders.. I posted this same picture in the forum along with this statement about Z amps. If the majority of American business put out the quality product that Mr Hall & Mike Zaite (Doc Z ) does. Our economy wouldn't be such a mess. I was PM'd by the moderator within minutes. Telling me they had modified the post. I was told this was a strike against me and to be careful in the future if I valued my forum membership. Hopefully I don't get reported from here ..See Green for inserted comments
