Just about anything sounds good through the Ghia to me. Overdrives that have sounded great: Tim J's Diabolical Gristle Tone Manipulator, the Zen Drive, the Pharaoh sweet Cheetah, the Fuller OCD or Fulldrive II, Clark Gainster. I've used both Analog Mikes's Mini BiComprosser and the Teese FK-1 compressors, and they both sounded great.
This is all boutique or near boutique stuff (meaning, not Boss or Ibanez or DOD) but I suspect that the Ghia will sound pretty good with about anything you want in front of it.

Everyone's got different ears but here's my list of good ones that I've tried- Boost - Burriss Boostier (Jack Orman style mosfet clean boost) - tons of headroom (18V), great for boosting leads & fattening up cleans Comp - Keeley Comp - really livens up the clean tones and also works well with single note lines, plays well with other pedals OD - Barber Direct Drive - I LOVE THIS PEDAL - GREAT for rhythm to light leads - most transparent (very little mid hump) of all the TS style pedals I've tried - very tweakable as well (2 trims knobs inside & a push/pull tone pot) Dist - Menatone Blue Collar - I guess it's really an OD as well but it goes beyond most TS style pedals into Marshally crunch land - this pedal has attitude - great for heavy rhythm and leads - mid hump is just right so it really stands out in the mix Fuzz- haven't tried any yet but I'll probably attempt one of those BYOC fuzzes at some point Vibe - had a Red Witch Moon Phaser - good but couldn't dial out the highs that it put out - moving on to Retro - Sonic CE Chorus (should sound awesome) Delay - Maxon AD-900 - My absolute favorite pedal of all time - warm... warm... warm... - the ghia loves this thing - it can go from subtle ZZ top style delay to Floyd/Radiohead dreamy delay with ease - I can't get enough of this thing...
Honorable Mention: OD/Dist - Danelectro Fab Distortion - Best $15 I ever spent - Good call Peach! Delay - Deluxe Memory Man - love that classic EH warmth
Here's a few I had so so luck with: Boss DS1 (modded) - sounded thin & buzzy (sounded much better w/ my SRZ) Keeley RAT - sounded pretty good but just too hard to dial in - especially for rhythm tones (again better w/ SRZ) TS9 - good for some bluesy leads but too much mid hump for rhythm tones

Tuner pedal is enough for me with a Ghia

The Danelectro Daddy-O overdrive does it for me. This overdrive sounded like crap with my 10 other amps but it melds so nicely with the Ghia it is simply amazing. Yes I know it is cheap. Yes I own BJF, HERMIDA, FULLTONE and KEELEY pedals but my choice with the Ghia is my lowly Daddy-O. BTW I only bought the Daddy-O because I read that Tom Petty and his guitarist Mike Campbell used them. I bought it a couple years ago and litteraly have tried it with 10 other amps. I didn't bother selling it because the money I would get from it wasn't worth the efforts. I am glad I have it with the Ghia.

damn.. I saw a used Daddy-O at the local GC a few weeks ago. Might have to stop by and snag it on the way home if it's still there...

Vibe - had a Red Witch Moon Phaser - good but couldn't dial out the highs that it put out Did you try adjusting the internal trimpot for bias? It can darken/increase depth...

Howdy Steve, I thought about giving that a try but I was afraid it might make the sound a little too processed if I cranked up the trim. Oh well, I'll probably regret trading it some where down the line. Great pedal but I think I'll get more use out of the chorus I traded it for. I needed something to use on my acoustics as well.
BTW - How'd the Floyd Tribute audition go?!

Boost/Comp? OD? Distortion? Fuzz? Vibe? Delay? It's hard to argue with the tone Dean Parks has on the Ghia demo with his Xotic stuff (AC booster, I believe)

BTW - How'd the Floyd Tribute audition go?! It went OK, but my George Ls came by UPS 20 min before I got home from work that Friday and he didn't leave them, so I didn't have them at the audition on Saturday... one (or more?) of my cheapo patch cables fritzed out (hadn't happened at home before, just a little noisy) right when I was supposed to start the second solo of "Comfortably Numb" (first thing I played, the other guitarist played the first solo)... that kind of shot my nerves and we stopped the song and I chose 2 cables I trusted and only used 3 boxes, sound was fine, but my nerves are really bad... the rest of the audition went OK, but nowhere near as well as it did at home. They said they liked my playing and sound, but a monster guitar player came in afterwards and nailed everything... Oh, well... maybe it just means I will have to get together a 3 piece thing to play less rigidly than in a tribute band with less pressure... I got the George Ls made by Mark @ Lava Cable on Monday, they're really nice! I found a website ( www.guitarbt.com/index.php?page=dl_list&cat=Jam%20Tracks ) that has a bunch of free backing tracks, maybe I'll do some recording this weekend...
